Who do you think was at fault? I start with you, Governor Palin. Was it the greedy lenders? Was it the risky home-buyers who shouldn't have been buying a home in the first place? And what should you be doing about it?

Palin:  One thing that Americans do at this time, also, though, is let's commit ourselves just every day American people, Joe Six Pack, hockey moms across the nation, I think we need to band together and say never again.

I guess I don't understand her folksey answer...Is she blaming hockey moms...or was this a subtle attack on Biden implying that he drinks a six pack?

I like that one too RM, but you forgot to post the whole paragraph.

"One thing that Americans do at this time, also, though, is let's commit ourselves just every day American people, Joe Six Pack, hockey moms across the nation, I think we need to band together and say never again. Never will we be exploited and taken advantage of again by those who are managing our money and loaning us these dollars. We need to make sure that we demand from the federal government strict oversight of those entities in charge of our investments and our savings and we need also to not get ourselves in debt. Let's do what our parents told us before we probably even got that first credit card. Don't live outside of our means. We need to make sure that as individuals we're taking personal responsibility through all of this. It's not the American peoples fault that the economy is hurting like it is, but we have an opportunity to learn a heck of a lot of good lessons through this and say never again will we be taken advantage of."

It was a very good answer, when presented in context.
"Heck Yeah!"

The one statement she made that did make me cringe was: "I've only been at this five weeks".  Honestly, if I were handling her, I'd have advised against a statement like that.  Sure go for the outsider image, but saying you've "only been at this for five weeks" isn't a confidence-inspiring statement.

I didn't quite get where she was going with that until she commented later along the lines of: "You can tell I'm a DC outsider.  I don't understand how people can vote for something then be against it..."

I think it gets worse.  It sounds like more 'conservative' code-talk for screwing the average Joe.  'Never again' means 'OK, Wall Street, just this ONCE . . .'

I don't know.  I think she was commenting on the fact that Biden has been making promises for 34 years.  She was trying to contrast his performance vs his promises compared to her performance and executive experience.

This is the actual statement.

Gwen asked her: So, Governor, as vice president, there's nothing that you have promised as a candidate that you would -- that you wouldn't take off the table because of this financial crisis we're in?

"I been at this, like five weeks? So there hasn't been a whole lot that I've promised, except to do what is right for the American people, put government back on the side of the American people, stop the greed and corruption on Wall Street."

Now here's Biden's answer to the same question:

Again, let me -- let's talk about those tax breaks. Barack Obama -- Obama voted for an energy bill because, for the first time, it had real support for alternative energy.

When there were separate votes on eliminating the tax breaks for the oil companies, Barack Obama voted to eliminate them. John did not.

And let me just ask a rhetorical question: If John really wanted to eliminate them, why is he adding to his budget an additional $4 billion in tax cuts for ExxonMobils of the world that, in fact, already have made $600 billion since 2001?

And, look, I agree with the governor. She imposed a windfall profits tax up there in Alaska. That's what Barack Obama and I want to do.

We want to be able to do for all of you Americans, give you back $1,000 bucks, like she's been able to give back money to her folks back there.

But John McCain will not support a windfall profits tax. They've made $600 billion since 2001, and John McCain wants to give them, all by itself -- separate, no additional bill, all by itself -- another $4 billion tax cut.

If that is not proof of what I say, I'm not sure what can be. So I hope the governor is able to convince John McCain to support our windfall profits tax, which she supported in Alaska, and I give her credit for it.

Who answered the question honestly?
Remember the question?

Well the only feedback I have heard was a few of the "street people" Downtown could really identify with the "Joe six-pack" portion of the debate.....

They said it would be high on their considerations when casting their ballot.

all kidding aside they say where the polls stand on October 15th is how the thing will end.

Thank God there will be an end.

I dunno Rico, I think the election cycle was dangerously short this time.  I really want to get to know the candidates.

I think they should start filing for the 2012 election the day after the new President is sworn in this January.

I never realized how therapeutic the word "new President" could be. [}:)]

Yeah so "therapeutic" that insanity is just a short step away.[;)]

After watching the debate and the ability of the debaters as to being informed, one could believe that those who are running for president was using the debaters as spokesmen for the changes in the government procedures that has escaped the needs of the common working classes.

I am a registered long time Democrat but I would host the white flag as the lady it seems go got in more words as well as being very informed (with humor) throughout the entire session.

Are we voting for a president who is standing the wings of the stage, waiting for his turn to be called on stage?
Today we stand in ecstasy and view that we build today'
Tomorrow we will enter into the plea to have it torn away.

But, she didn't answer the question. Look, I'm a conservative and although I'm not fond of McCain, I prefer him over Obama (but not by much). The thing is, she didn't answer the question, as most politicians do - as Biden would have done.

I'm looking for a different kind of politician, not the same old same old..

I just have to add, I really didn't like her winking at the camera.  Is she trying to get a date or running for vp?  Totally inappropriate.

I assumed she wanted me and millions of Americans to go up to her room afterwards with a bottle of champagne.

Va va va voom!

Dang, she is hot though.. :)

But she essentially came out and said she wasn't going to answer the questions at the outset.  That's a sure fire way to ensure you're viewed as a kook or a greenhorn when in a debate situation.

People want reassurance that you know what your stance is on the issues.  Not whether or not you're cool to hang out with and have a beer.

People keep saying 'she's like one of us'.  Well, that may be the case, but I'm the last person I'd want in the top two or three positions of power in the land.  I'd rather have someone who knows what's going on in the world.  She obviously does not.

I see site after site, post after post, that  Biden was factual and Palin connected with the people and when it comes down to scoring points, based on facts, Biden wins.
