RUSSIAN ANALYST PREDICTS DECLINE AND BREAKUP OF USA
Tue Nov 25 2008 09:04:22 ET

A leading Russian political analyst has said the economic turmoil in the United States has confirmed his long-held view that the country is heading for collapse, and will divide into separate parts.

Professor Igor Panarin said in an interview with the respected daily IZVESTIA published on Monday: "The dollar is not secured by anything. The country's foreign debt has grown like an avalanche, even though in the early 1980s there was no debt. By 1998, when I first made my prediction, it had exceeded $2 trillion. Now it is more than 11 trillion. This is a pyramid that can only collapse."

The paper said Panarin's dire predictions for the U.S. economy, initially made at an international conference in Australia 10 years ago at a time when the economy appeared strong, have been given more credence by this year's events.

When asked when the U.S. economy would collapse, Panarin said: "It is already collapsing. Due to the financial crisis, three of the largest and oldest five banks on Wall Street have already ceased to exist, and two are barely surviving. Their losses are the biggest in history. Now what we will see is a change in the regulatory system on a global financial scale: America will no longer be the world's financial regulator."

When asked who would replace the U.S. in regulating world markets, he said: "Two countries could assume this role: China, with its vast reserves, and Russia, which could play the role of a regulator in Eurasia."

Asked why he expected the U.S. to break up into separate parts, he said: "A whole range of reasons. Firstly, the financial problems in the U.S. will get worse. Millions of citizens there have lost their savings. Prices and unemployment are on the rise. General Motors and Ford are on the verge of collapse, and this means that whole cities will be left without work. Governors are already insistently demanding money from the federal center. Dissatisfaction is growing, and at the moment it is only being held back by the elections and the hope that Obama can work miracles. But by spring, it will be clear that there are no miracles."

He also cited the "vulnerable political setup", "lack of unified national laws", and "divisions among the elite, which have become clear in these crisis conditions."

He predicted that the U.S. will break up into six parts - the Pacific coast, with its growing Chinese population; the South, with its Hispanics; Texas, where independence movements are on the rise; the Atlantic coast, with its distinct and separate mentality; five of the poorer central states with their large Native American populations; and the northern states, where the influence from Canada is strong.

He even suggested that "we could claim Alaska - it was only granted on lease, after all." Panarin, 60, is a professor at the Diplomatic Academy of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and has authored several books on information warfare.

The Author, the "professor" works for the Russian equivalent of the State Department.  He is the government spokesmen on state run TV (it is all state run mind you) to give the party line.

His latest news items:

Most telling... he has authored:

Pardon me for taking him seriously.  Better yet, pardon Drudge.  In all fairness, it was part of a spread on Russian saber rattling.[/edit]

Weeeeeeeeeee!!!

The guy starts out with some good points.  The dollar is a floating currency not supported by anything.  He points about our RETARDED national debt.

Of course  the Euro, the Pound, the Yen, the Peso, the Loony, the well, all of them except currencies pegged to the dollar are floating.  The Ruble is supported by Putin's say so - it is not floating, it is artificially  pegged by the government.   So really, that point is moot.

And yes, the USA has far too much debt.  However, we have no defaulted and had our debts wiped in the last 20 years.  We do not have loans from the world bank, the IMF, and the development fund.

And yes, our economy is on the downswing.  Our markets are down 40% and tons of money has been lost.  Then again... Russia is down 70%.  Their primary commodity (oil) is in the tank.

But those points are all well taken.  He then steps off the deep end...

Who will step up for the USA?  Why Russia of course!  They will be able to control the world markets.

None of which has changed in the last 225 years.  In fact, pretty sure those are included as our strengths.  I had no idea our federal system, states rights, and political disagreements were making the US split apart.

BUT... up to this point I was still going "interesting points."  Then he shows his pure ignorance of America.

quote:
He predicted that the U.S. will break up into six parts - the Pacific coast, with its growing Chinese population; the South, with its Hispanics; Texas, where independence movements are on the rise; the Atlantic coast, with its distinct and separate mentality; five of the poorer central states with their large Native American populations; and the northern states, where the influence from Canada is strong.

1) The Chinese population on the West coast is not the dominant force.

2) The Hispanics in the "South" are not a majority.  In the SW many are, but they just came to the USA and I have never heard a notion that they now want to break it up.

3) Texas.  He realizes our current president is from Texas right?  There are more gun toting flag waiving Americans in Texas than he can even imagine.  They asked three times to JOIN the union ffs.

4) Atlantic Coast with it's "distinct mentality."  New Hampshire and NYC are identical.  As are Philadelphia and Miami.

5) Would the Natives in the room please stand up and tell us about your plans to break the central plains away from the rest of the US and please reveal your "large population" numbers to me.  Oklahoma is among the highest in the nation with 11% Native Populations.  Of those 11% the vast majority identify themselves as American first, and Native second.  Perhaps 33% of the Native Americans being actively involved with their tribes (perhaps).

6) Northern States... where Canada is a strong influence.

Argh.  I'm from Iowa.  Spent plenty of time in Minnesota and Wisconsin.  Hell, lots of time in Canada.  Still do every year.

I must have missed this influence.  Lets call people in Minnesota and ask who the president of Canada is.  Hell, ask what the capital is (damn, hockey fans might know).  Sorry, succeeding to Canada or under their influence just isn't that likely.

7) Then, for fun, he brings up Alaska.  In case you didn't know... Russia alternatively claims they only "leased" it to us or that it as sold under the Csar and the Soviets and subsequent governments don't have to recognize the sale (they started caring when we found oil up there).  Anyone hear know any Alaskans?  Most of them either are, were, or have relatives in the US military.

Really, the guy is at a loss.  No decent basis in his argument.  The pacific northwest and New Hampshire would be the two places I would vote for succession.  However, even in those instances it doesn't work for many, many reasons.  Foremost the economics involved.  Secondary, of course, are the inter connectivity of the states.

I wasn't born in Oklahoma.  My sister not born in New Mexico.  My friends in Portland were not born there either.  Of those that were, they have friends, relatives, business connections, military ties and an interest in the rest of the states.

You can make an argument that the United States will not be so forever.  Clearly that is a coherent argument.  Unfortunately, the above appears to be more doom and gloom from Russia.  At least make it believable next time.

When we break into smaller countries, please don't have Oklahoma go with Texas. I Tulsa to want to be part of Kansas with northeast Arkansas and southern Missouri with us .

Our cities are bigger and Tulsa could be the capital.

omg this is hilarious.  so we are all going to divide into racist nations....hahahahahaha.  This stuff makes good comedy.  I'm sure they wrote this story to get Chavez' spirits up.

It is not good that oil is going down, but when it pisses these turds off I say keep it dropping.

The guy lost me when he said Russia would step into the power vacuum. Russia is barely stable enough to control even its own borders, much less anyone else's.

The secession of a bunch of regions in the United States is a joke, too. Where is there any public sentiment to do so, except for a few loony tunes (yeah, Todd Palin, I'm lookin' at you)?

cannon_fodder

Here is his "official" website.  Very odd for someone working for a Russian federal agency.  Complete with banner adds, book buying chances, and a member of the Patriotic  Ring of Resources.  George Orwell would be so proud.

I thought this was a piece from the Onion! It was certainly worthy of their publication. I wonder what he thinks held us together during the great Depression when many of the same factors were present?

Heh, a Russian Rush Limbaugh!

Do you think the guy actually believes this stuff? Or is it totally political propaganda, he says it, then in private laughs as the public buys it?

It seems that since FOTD has been banned from TN, he has moved to Russia and is posting there now.

I read this yesterday and thought that Drudge had found an Onion article... or maybe this was from Cold War Russia.  Nope, it is from today Russia.  I think their leader, Medevdev (whatshisnutts) has a desire to move Russia back to "MotherRussia".  All of their recent movements have reflected that.  I am still not sure what to think about what is going on with Chavez, and I am really not sure what to think about Chavez himself.  I actually think he isn't a terrible guy, not someone I would want to have a beer with mind you... but not a guy I would run from in a crowded room.

And for the record, I did live in Alaska, and you are mostly correct.  The military (former and current) population of Fairbanks Alaska is around 55%.  About 25% are people that came to work on the pipeline and the rest are inuits.

I would not overlook that our history is written and revised in the eyes of the beholder.   The Vikings established the country in about 860 AD and they had a war sustained history.  They were first in space.  They developed the first space station.   Germany failed to get their oil reserves in ww11.   Napoleon  met his end as a world power in Russia.   "Missiles of October" was a tradeoff to remove them from Europe and they would not put them in Cuba.  We cannot control our borders any more than they can.  It is better to take offensive action today rather than ignore what we are being told.
Today we stand in ecstasy and view that we build today'
Tomorrow we will enter into the plea to have it torn away.

I think you can't take shadows out of context...

I think he means this...AD (Adrian Peterson's nickname) leads the Vikings to victory in games played in October, especially against international teams. Our offensive line will play reserves on the line of scrimmage by controlling space around the border."

One could consider the person who would predict the breaking up of the U.S. is not available to the history books of this nation established as a British Criminal Colony, Religion fanatics, and prostitutes who became the elitist of Boston because of their contacts with their johns.  He compares our 225 year history with that which is available to him as beginning with the Vikings some 2200 years ago.   He writes from a background of recorded history of the great empires of our times such as the "Sun Never Sets On the British Empire" The saga of the "Spanish Armada", the establishing of the division of this U.S. into two separate nations in the 1850's causing our war of 1860..  He has available to him the prediction of this country that those who we consider foreign born will within 3 decades be the majority.

What he is trying to tell us is that we need some ear clips that extend out from our ears to keep those oversized white hats we are designing for our elitist from falling down over our eyes that are keeping us from seeing what is happening.

Translation:  If you think the US collapsing is far fetched, help do something to keep it that way rather than being complacent and ignorant.

I'm sorry I asked.

You ask shadows a question, and you get an answer that simply confuses even more.
