Something you might want to check out for yourself when you get a Mo'...is the incredible work that's been going into the remake of Tulsa's RiverParks Bicycle Path. Oh don't get me wrong here, it's for Pedestrians and Walkers and Joggers and Runners and Rollerbladers and Skateboarders too. An occasional Dog might even be sighted walking along it too.
Now more than ever, Bicyclists who have  invested good money in their bikes and dress are showing everyone just how it's done..! Amazing technology goes into these bikes ranging from Giant, Trek, Specilized, Bianchi, Gary Fisher, Schwinn and many more..!
Stop and talk to the bicyclists and most are friendly and happy to answer questions about what their their bikes are all about. "Tour De France" kinds of people are frequent there and regular home town people who just love the outdoors and bicycling are included in this fantastic new area being developed from 11th street bridge area, all the way to 71st and Riverside Drive right here in Tulsa. You have got to check this out. Said to be completed in January of 2009.
Be there or be square..!

It is still strongly recommended that if you want to ride fast, get off the trail and onto the road.  The River Park trail system has a speed limit (never enforced to my knowledge) of 10 mph.  With a good tailwind, a cyclist can cruise at 25mph - too fast to safely mix with pedestrians.

If you really want to push your physical limits, consider joining the Tulsa Wheelmen.

They offer road races in the spring, weekly criteriums through the summer, and cyclocross in the fall.

I would like to start cycling actually. My old knees dont do running so well anymore. It would be nice to have a "beginners" group to start with cause I know I wouldnt be able to keep up with those who are in better shape and have been cycling for a while.

Those who think it is a luxury have only a fragment of a mind. Mans spirit grows hungry for art in the same way h

A friend of mine once said that our knees only have a limited number of miles in them. If you run, you use up those miles before the rest of you wears out. [:D]

It looks like the 31st to 41st trail improvements are almost complete. The trail bed and curbs are in place; I think they are just waiting for the weather to be warm enough so they can lay the asphalt.

I also noticed that some of the brush along the bank 11th to 21st has been cleared and several trees were removed. The bank still looks very natural, but not quite as overgrown as it was.

Edited to add: Why is this thread in the political forum?

A couple of things you should know: First, it's absolutely imperative to have a bike that fits properly if you want to avoid knee problems or other aches and pains.

As for easy paced group rides, I highly recommend the Tulsa Bicycle Club

There are rides somewhere in the area nearly every weekend through the season, as well as the Monday and Wednesday evening rides.  I think the routes are on the TBC website.

Finally, consider taking the League of American Bicyclists 'Road1' course.  It packs the equivalent of a year or more of trial-and-error road experience into a one day class, teaching how to ride safely and comfortably on area roads.  The local instructor group will probably be offering the course out of The Hub in the near future.

Boy.... I have read some politically charged topics before... But this one is really some of that neo-neo-stuff.

Yes...it's coming along great...and there was a lot of traffic yesterday given the fantastic weather.

Now...if everyone can figure out that the part of the trail closest to the river is for runners...farthest from the river for bikers. [;)]

I ran the new sections of the trail when I was in town and they're beautiful.  Can't wait for more to open up.

Was at the Rivertrail the other day and was thinking about how the trail system is evolving and maturing.  It is clearly, slowly, becoming a spine of activity with destinations all along the way -I hope-.

Was wondering what could enhance the idea of the Rivertrail becoming more of a place and I thought about Lakeshore in Chicago.  I enjoyed Navy Pier to a degree but I really enjoyed being able to rent a version of these in particular:

Wow.  Part of me thinks it would be really fun, efficient, and good exercise to have a "bike car".  But part of me isn't sure it would be safe, confident that I wouldn't be to lazy to use it, or satisfied that my ego would allow me to.

second photo - I bet they were weaving all over the road while she was on her phone.  Probably cost a mime or two their lives that day.

Maybe a few mimes are expendable.  I wonder if she started texting after she was finished with the voice communication.
