There is an article in the local paper today about Land Legacy Group's desire to insert another park in the eastern part of downtown in the near future and a longer term plan for one in the Cathedral Square area: Link

Land Legacy is actively looking for a site on the east side of Tulsa's downtown to establish a new park, the Tulsa World has learned.

The organization also would like to eventually have a new park in south downtown's Cathedral Square area.

If you're wondering why there are no images of the park, it's because I have them. I am the originator of the idea and I only showed the governing board a little over a week ago at their quarterly board meeting. I was keeping quiet during talks with the property owners, but I guess there isn't a point now...

So now, A TulsaNow exclusive:

I love the location and idea, but from the drawings...the building looks like a nose and the trees are shaped into two eyes and a frowning mouth.

I wish it were a happy face.
Power is nothing till you use it.

I like the over all layout, the proximity to Centennial park, and the library.  Then the old Main Library could be turned into a museum, or maybe a couple of museums.  One half historical and one half say Contemporary art. Reuse that piece of midcentury architecture.  The Plaza could become a sculpture garden instead of the vast empty plain that it is now.  Just a suggestion.
It's hard being a Diamond in a rhinestone world.

Very nice grizz. I've heard that LL is interested in officing in the old temple at 14th and Cheyenne. I really appreciate their dedication to downtown.

There was also an article that included some of Crowley's downtown development sketches.

I don't have a screen capture program so here is the link:

Maybe I'm a bit confused...  who was having talks with the property owners if the idea was just shared with the governing board a little over a week ago?

And when did you share this idea with Mr. Crowley?  (Because, except for specifying the building as a library, this exact concept appears in the sketches linked by carltonplace above.)

So, no Wal-Mart?

Just kidding.

Might want to think twice about having "residential" that close to the IDL feeder.  But it's a cool concept--I was driving downtown when I was around for Christmas kind of wondering what could/would become of those blocks now that Greenwood Village is moving forward.  Park space seems logical.

Those sketches are by Mr Crowley, we've been talking for a few months. The first real talk with a property owner was right before Christmas. Carltonplace doesn't link to any sketches.

Correct.  Of course I was referring to the maps of downtown showing Crowley's concepts.  You implied that you were the only one to have the sketches.  I guess Mr. Crowley also has them and has not made any effort to keep the concept secret (it's right there to see in his downtown plans).
Not sure exactly what idea you are taking credit for originating;   The idea of a new park/open space in that location has been appearing in Crowley's concepts for quite some time.

The drawings I posted are more recent than the overall downtown concept ones. The park, in this location with surrounding development, I have been working on since 2004, long before Crowley came back to town.

Up until a few months ago when I contacted him, the park was not at this exact location, and previous crowley drawings for this block involved either having a ballpark or a big box store on this site. Ask him if you want.

carltonplace

You can tell by the sketches that either Mr Crowley watches this forum or gets ideas from someone who posts here.

Case in point: South Downtown Residential was from a thread on this forum.

Land Legacy's first Pocket Park was pretty dismal, from a lighting perspective.
An "Acorn" Light mecca of glare (perhaps to keep bums from sleeping on the benches?).

Has their thinking changed any to consider lighting for the sake of human vision, or are they just satisfied with whatever the electric utility wants the city to use?

That park may be relocated/reconfigured in the next few years. Kaiser has his eyes set on zero-setback development down both sides of Archer.

Land Legacy, being a non-profit, has to "partner" a lot such as letting the Tulsa Parks Department build the Centennial Green. That is why some things are done the way they are.

Hindsight is 20/20.

You want change made to downtown lighting? You need to talk to Crowley. Most of the big foundations listen to him and he is very pro-green development. The same foundations doing the development on riverparks with the much-improved lighting. The sketches posted above were done in a hurry so I could show it to the LL board so they don't go into much detail on lighting, etc.

When the movers-and-shakers have been told that glare-prone "Acorn" -style lights are not a good deal, yet choose to ignore those warnings, the "hindsight" argument doesnt carry as much weight.

As to the success of the Riverparks Jogging Trail lighting, I responded on another thread so as to not hijack this one.

Jack Crowley's name sounds familiar, as in I may have met him but I just cant place the circumstances.   Does he have an office on Greenwood?
