Great idea!  I'm cross country skiing to the Colony tonight.  Try to stop me.

I was contemplating Colony myself.  What time you gonna be there?

Bixby usually applies a thermal treatment to melt ice and snow. (They wait for the sun.) I have to admit to being pleasantly surprised during the last storm to see a sand/salt on the street in front of our house. Tulsa maintenance on Memorial usually stops at 101st. If I can get to 101st & Memorial, I can get to work.

A couple of years ago my SO was working with someone who lives in Bixby. When it iced, I had to drive down there and pick her up and take her (and my SO) to work. It was pretty ridiculous how Bixby did essentially no plowing or sanding on their part of Garnett. Of course the subdivisions were skating rinks.

Our fair city isn't very good at plowing the streets apparently. I just had to go to Walgreen's (my SO forgot to mention yesterday that she needed a refill on her prescriptions, boo) and neither 15th or Lewis have had anything done to them today.

You'd think they'd have had time to mostly clear the main roads at least.

Not that it really matters to me. I don't have much trouble driving on snow, but if traffic had been heavier it would have been rather dangerous.

I did not see a single city vehicle in South Tulsa (Yale, Sheridan, Memorial) south of 91st trying to plow streets. I guess my tax dollars are funding someone else's street--probably in freakin midtown near 31st & Harvard. [:P]

TU still closed, which has got to be a first time.  In all the years we have lived here, they have always been reluctant to close.  I remember them closing in 07 for one day.

And Woodland Hills mall.  Lordy, I bet those merchants are crying.

Hawkins

Well at least the power outages were minimal this year!! Remember last year? Half of 71st Street was on, and the other half was off.

Many Tulans were without power for days.

All the merchants (particularly restaurants) that had power raked in the cash, as people got out of their dark homes in search of warmth and entertainment.

cannon_fodder

Hawkins, that isn't entirely true.  At the mall sales were not up very much.  People were going to hang out and stay warm, not to shop.  No-school days are a similar affair.

Not saying it doesn't help, but it isn't the boon one might think.

The restaurants did rake it in, however.

Keep warm folks, and keep thinking global warming thoughts. I never could understand when someone says "climate change" what does that mean? What is changing? Are we going (changing) from hot to cold, or cold to hot, wet to dry?. "Climate Change" means something is changing from one thing to something else but no one ever says what that something else is. (global warming is clear the believers in that say the planet is overheating peroid.) Also, exactly what is the normal temp. of planet earth? The planet has been spinning around for 4.5 Billion years and at times both poles were ice free, maybe ice free poles are the normal temp of earth. Man's only been around  a few hundred thousand years. IMO I don't believe in neither, The earth's climate is always changing as far as that goes. Happy Winter Everyone! [B)]

why did I know you'd creep out about that when it's cold like this?

But ignore the bout of 70s and record high temps we had earlier in the month.

Oh, wait a minute, maybe the temps weren't so high in Columbus oHIo.

It was sure good to get out today.  Classes resumed at TU and TCC...yaaaaaayyyy.

Public/private schools are open tomorrow.  Not sure if all the private schools are, but I am sure those kids are either keen to go back out (away from mammas nagging, lol) or they're ticked off that they won't have more free time to play Wii.

I hate winter!!

Look about ya, it's cold all over. The deep south is in the deep freeze. Tulsa is been in the teens and heating bills are going into orbit. The northern plains are busting cold temp records every week. Fairbanks, Alaska hit almost -80 below zero two weeks ago. It's a cold & long winter and winter just started. The schools used up all their "snow days" already and will have to make them up in June. It's one big "Burrrr"![xx(]

All I'm sayin' is, you ALWAYS ignore the record highs, which we've had plenty of this season.  Only when it promotes your 'global warming is a hoax' agenda will you pipe up.  Selective statistic parsing.

I'm not saying it's not cold, as long as you'll admit there have been a plethora of record highs this season.

I don't get what's so difficult to grasp about the concept of an higher overall global temperature causing more extremes due to the weather systems being stronger, thus pushing warm air farther north ahead of the systems and cold air farther south behind them.

I heard some people say that the melting polar ice burgs break off and drift south and that chills the air making it colder down south. They just don't give up.. Scientists that don't get any funding don't believe in global warming. Many Scientists who believe in it change their mind when they retire and don't get any more funding. Groups that fund a science project want the scientists to come out with results that supports their point of view, or that scientist will find himself unemeployed. If you hire some guy to prove that global warming is real and his results say global warming is a hoax- you'll fire him and hire someone else who will find that global warming is real. That's part of the problem.[B)]
