Not to mention Razorback fans who didn't go to the U of A.  I fit into that category, as do several of my friends and relatives. Tulsa is a very conveniently located city to the state of Arkansas, and many small town Arkansas residents leave their hometowns for the "big city" of Tulsa when they graduate.  It's bigger than LR and smaller than Dallas, which makes it a nice sized city for many.  No surprise at all that many Arkansans live in Tulsa.

Not that this matters much to the topic at hand, but do the Oklahoma schools get much coverage in the Arkansas papers? I just wonder if there's a similar thread on an Arkansas Now message board full of people complaining about the lack of Sooner, Cowboy and/or Golden Hurricans coverage over there.

It's called the "Tulsa World" for a reason, folks. Given the layoffs and the amount of space in the sports section, they're doing well to cover what they can of Oklahoma sports. In a perfect world, sure -- they could stand to hire at least a stringer who could file a few stories a week. But unfortunately, it is what it is.

The fact that all you Arkansas folks are posting on here shows that you know how to use the Internet. You can get a lot of Razorback coverage online. Granted, there's something reassuring and convenient in reading news and sports from an old-school, hard-copy newspaper, but at least you can get your Hog fix somewhere.

Well actually we do get our news out of Arkansas. There is a sports forum over there that is called Hogville that enjoys a membership of over 26,000.

I will guarantee you that you can post on that board without being talked down to or have someone say, "Who the heck cares." Posters do that and they get booted off the forum.

We have posters from many of the South Eastern conference schools and other schools that post there frequently. Wonder what it is about the Oklahoma folks that makes them so intolerant of other schools. The forum members on the University of Tulsa forum are the same way.

Either that or someone needs to get a life and stop living vicariously through a football team.

I dont see why its a big deal that a team, from a completly different state, is not covered in Tulsa, by a local TULSA newpaper.

Im sick and tired of local media grouping Arkansas in with our teams and calling it the big 4.

Arkansas has their own newspapers, and their own local news cast.

Citizen 72,  have you tried contacting the TW sports department and asking them your question?  Have you also contacted all the local television sports departments about why they don't give better coverage to Uof Arkansas?  Why hasn't the UTW stepped in to fill that void?  If they don't know your out there, then they do not know to try to fill that gap.   So give em a call and then let us know what they say.

Some of you don't understand, The Tulsa World is SOLD in most of NWA therefore it should do a better job of covering a team within it's subscription boundaries. Also I would be willing to bet that there are more U of A alumni that read the paper than TU alumni.

I don't think anyone on this board can dispute that there is a massive amount of U of A fans in Tulsa, all we want is more coverage of our team. You can bet your last dollar that if the Dallas morning news didn't cover OU any longer all heck would break lose.

Okay Ladies and Gentlemen,  I went to the wall for you all.  Here is the reply I received from TW

quote:
Thanks for your question.  We cover TU more than Arkansas because we believe there is a greater reader interest in TU. I would respectfully disagree with the argument that more of our readers are interested in Arkansas coverage than TU coverage.  Mike Strain, Sports Editor Tulsa World

So now it is your job to try to convince the sports department at the World that there is a larger Arkansas contingent here in the Tulsa World coverage area.

I hope this has helped.

I don't care either way, my team is Miami, the other Hurricanes.

THen all of you need to let the sports department know that you would appreciate more coverage of your team.  Use some of the reasons you have presented here when you do.  That would be better than spitting and sputtering on here.  Let your Voices Be Heard in the right places.

It's a joke from the TU board . . . a couple of posters from here also post over there, or at the very least, read both boards.  It's an inside joke and I apologize.

An explanation: about two years ago, our board (insidetulsasports.com) was flooded with a series of rumors regarding players and coaches from Arkansas.  First, TU hired away Guz Malzahn, which was a real stunning move.  Then, the big rumor was that the former #1 overall recruit, Mitch Mustain, would follow Malzahn to TU.  By the end of that day, news sites out of NW Arkansas were all reporting "sources" that Mustain had in fact enrolled at TU (by the way, there are way too many news sources in Arkansas and the interwebs makes the Hogs very easy to follow . . . they almost have too much coverage).

It was all a farce.  I saw one particular newspaper cite itself as the source.  And then all these other sites  linked that story, which was subsequently deleted.  So, on our board, whenever anybody brings up Arkansas athletics, we have a tradition of citing the thread as the source of the story, sort of a play off that weird period.

It went on for months.  I remember when the Malzahn story broke on KOTV, somebody brought it up on an Arkansas board.  One particular poster refused to admit it was true.  He wanted more proof.  We gave him articles, links, you name it.  Finally, someone posted a picture of Malzahn wearing TU gear.  He still wouldn't buy it.

As for the guy aboving whining about the TU board, it sort of proves the point.  Some Hog fans take the web way too seriously.
