It must be an incredible time to be in the gold business.

It is not physically possible to watch late-night TV without seeing gold commercials. Not possible.

I just saw back to back gold ads during the same break, Tulsa Gold and Silver (on 41st) followed by Tulsa Gold and Gems (on South Yale).

This in addition to all the national ads where you mail your gold. Which, if you haven't heard, is apparently a huge scam.

Are these local gold-buyers shady as well? I assume they are, given the insane amount they must be spending on ads. That and the fact that Tulsa Gold and Gems is constantly pimping their giant monstrosity of a truck.

I got some of them gold dollars as change from the post office stamp machine. I like how they gots purty pictures of Presidents on them.
Power is nothing till you use it.

I know what you mean Ted.
We advertise on local TV also and my boss is the same way they are. Ads between 7 P.M. and 10 P.M. are very high and are purely for the Jim Glover's of this market.
Our ads run during Seinfeld and during the re-runs of the Simpson's. We made the mistake of trying during the day and Jerry Springer is just not the type people your trying to target(not that theres anything wrong with that)
Late night and during the day is very cheap and they almost beg you to take those time slot's, hince the half hour info/reality show NOSAK RAW on at 2 A.M.
Here is a little hint. RADIO sells.
People watching T.V. most of the time have no job and or credit(no offense)Unless you are ego driven and want people to recognize you out and about, It's a waste of money. We bomb radio like crazy and it has done great the last three years.
Changing opinions one mistake at a time.

Who needed to "hear" that the national ads are a scam?

Think about it:

"Put your gold in an envelope, send it to us, and we will mail you a check!  Just like that!!"

Completely off-topic, but if you need to make a quick judgment about how cool a town is, just check how many times the Simpsons air daily.

Complete craphole towns don't air the simpsons at all. Really awesome college towns like Austin or Madison have them twice a day or more.

It's not all that great. Alot can happen. The government can outlaw the owning of gold, or nations can take control of gold mines or any number of things like that and you risk losing a ton of money. Oil right now may be the best bet for investments, at least while Obama is in office because he won't drill for any oil and the oil supply will stay tight.[}:)]

I was fortunate enough that my in law's gave us 6 Canadian Maple Leaf Gold coins.  We have held onto them for over a year now.  We have sold 2 of them for $1,150 dollars.  Not bad considering the gold places around town were offering 900 just a month ago.
