Best post I've seen all day.  I've heard these folks are the real deal.  If the rumors are true, I welcome them to Brookside, although it spells disaster for my waistline and wallet.  Now, I'll be able to get a Cherry Street bun at Blue Moon, followed by a real bagel just a couple of blocks north.

Especially if they have jalapeno breakfast bagel with sausage. MMMMMMMM, sauuuuuusssssssaaaaaaggggge.

I've tried Panera many time over the years, and I just don't see why people continue to eat there. In my opinion, it's just not very good.

that catch phrase was funny......in 1994.

I'm sure you've heard that catch phrase for decades.

Oh c'mon...who deleted it?

The mystery of that remark will haunt me...

The old Village cleaners location (next to Channel 2, formerly a Braums) is being remodeled.  I heard a rumor that an OKC-based bagel place is moving in, but I haven't gone by to look at the posted building permit to (hopefully) confirm that rumor.

Has anyone heard anything?

From driving past several times in the last couple of weeks it looks like it is getting close to opening.

According to KJRH sources, Old School Bagels should be open by Friday.

I welcome someone to make better bagels than Panera, they leave much to be desired.

I just stopped in for some bagels.  Nice place and friendly folks.  I will give them getting past the opening to make real decisions.   The bagels look like real bagels.  Maybe I should run by in the morning and get a bagel, cream cheese and lox for breakfast.

Made the inaugural trip this morning.  And I'll preface this by acknowledging that they just opened:

I arrived during the after-church lunch rush just after noon.  There was a line, but the wait wasn't too bad.  Parking was not an issue.

The basket of everything bagels was 1/3 full as I made the turn in line.  By the time I made it to the register I ordered the last one.  Surprise.  It was already sold.  Why it was still in the basket, I don't know, but I went for the jalapeno bagel instead.

My order:  1 jalapeno bagel, toasted, with light plain cream cheese, topped with tomatoes.

I took a seat and waited.

What I received:  1 jalapeno bagel without enough cream cheese to cover the surface.  There were no tomatoes, and it wasn't toasted.  They also made a second cut, dividing the bagel into four pieces.

The fact they ran out of a bagel isn't a big deal, but don't leave purchased bagels in the basket.  Bag them, remove them, do something other than leave them on display.  It just creates disappointment.  A small critique, but annoying all the same.  Screwing up the order just made the whole experience that much worse, but again, I understand the place just opened and they need time for things to run smoothly.  But what I didn't understand was skimping on the cream cheese.  It was like they were scraping the bottom just to get something - anything - on this bagel.  If I can see the bagel through the cream cheese - there's not enough cream cheese.  If there's too much, I can take it off.  If you don't give me enough to begin with, I feel cheated.

I hope my second trip meets with better results.

Their posted hours are 8-2. 8AM seems a little late for a mostly breakfast-type food. Although, I have no idea what time Panera opens. But I do know that someone that works at 8 that wants bagels is out of luck unless they want to be late to work.

They should open at 630, or at the latest, 7.  I'm pretty sure Panera opens at 7.

How do they expect to get much business with those hours? Weird.
