Tulsa group bidding for Dallas sports team

In the tradition of Global Development Partners' East Village soccer stadium... then East End ballpark....

Contacts from a Tulsa group of "not less than two, no more than four" people who are interested in "river developement" are looking into relocating FC Dallas of Major League Soccer... source indicates officials in Frisco, TX (Frisco ISD/City and County) and the Hunt family are considering an informal offer due to "disappointing corporate support and a sharp drop in ticket sales" for MLS's FC Dallas due to recent poor economic conditions....

Preliminary proposal will use Tulsa's Chapman Stadium; league officials are skeptical about the venue, but have been educated about the stadium's "downsizing" and availability for corporate suites in the new press box... big problem is still the narrow field dimensions... this part of the plan is temporary; as some sort of development is being discussed, said the lady who emailed me....

Who knows?

Now how did I guess without opening your post this involved a soccer team?  I must be telepathic.  ;D

Well, I'll hope it comes true just to add more things to Tulsa, but I have my doubts.

For one, H.A. Chapman Stadium is now a very nice football venue, but I'm not sure how you make it into a soccer venue.  The field is inlaid turf.  It is not painting, the sideline stripes are a different color of field turf.  Same with all the designs, logos, and markings on the field.

So while it would be a nice sized venue (IMHO) for a soccer venue in Tulsa, I'm not sure how to even get over the first hurdle.  Let alone conflicting schedules in July, August, September, and October.  Then there is liability issues if alcohol is served at MLS games (TU stadium donors nixed the idea of alcohol at TU games, unless you are rich enough to afford a suite  . . .  then you are civilized enough to drink).

No raining on the parade, just raising concerns.  I hate it when Rufnex gets disappointed and disappears for months!

Would eventual new stadium be Jenks, or West Bank?

Yeah, I think USRufnex has been the target of an April Fools joke.

Quite unfortunately, IMO, the current mayor and staff want to act like the Branson Landing folks never approached the city with their plans for the West Bank.  The Branson Landing folks were shewed away and thrown out like trash when, again IMO, THERE IS NO ONE ELSE WITH THE RESOURCES OR EXPERIENCE OR MONEY OR IDEAS that has approached the city with West Bank development plans.  Why does the city continue to ignore those folks?

So, if the MLS story you have heard has any connection with Branson Landing you might as well forget it, the Mayor et al have no interest in dealing with those guys, it seems.

Wow, thanks for bringing this up Ruf.  My research into the issue brought to light how little people around the country think of Tulsa (as I see you have already read the discussion):

QuoteHow I knew this was a stupid April Fool's gag, in three easy steps:

1. It was posted by MM10S.
2. The word "tulsa" was in the URL.
3. The word "tulsa" in the URL was not immediately followed by "sucks" or "blows" or "isashithole."

Quote1) I hate Tulsa more than I hate Texas.

2) It really wouldn't matter one way or the other to me, other than shaving an hour off my drive to see an away Chicago game, so I really don't have a horse in the race.

3) Did I mention how much I hate Tulsa?

4) Tulsa would be a lousy market compared to OKC at this point, knowing the current political climate, especially with the issues at the BOK Center and window rusting all over the facade because of the incompatible metals.

QuoteAnd Mike and I concur on hating Tulsa. It's nothing more than a pit stop of faded glory. While they all hung out circle-jerking themselves they got passed by and the community leadership in Tulsa doesn't have the commitment, cooperation, or resolve to do anything more than talk. Now, at best, Tulsa is just a quaint little city.

Shhhh. You'll conjure him up and he'll regale us with NASL tales of glory.

The worst part is, I can't really argue with them.
