Pirates attack US ship, fail.

Piracy has moved further off the coast and all over East Africa this year, 15 major hijackings so far.  Navies can't patrol all that water and as long as pirates are getting rich they will continue.  To date, no U.S. flagged ship has been a victim.

And that continues:

Several boats and a couple dozen pirates took a merchant ship off the coast of East Africa (310 miles out!).  The crew was 21 US Merchantmen.  The crew retook the vessel, captured one of the pirates, 3 escaped into a life boat (310 miles off the coast) and the rest went overboard.   Reports are mixed on what exactly happened and some say the pirates in the life boat have the captain hostage.

In any event:  this was the first time in 200 years a US flagged ship has been seized and it ends in failure for the pirates.  With any luck, most of them dead.  There are only 200 US flagged non-governmental international cargo ships in the world, there may be a few more (we are too expensive and too safe to employ in international waters when an Indonesian will do just as good).

Anywho, they had some pictures of the event:

When I first saw that picture I thought, "why is that pirate about to kill the man playing the ukulele." ;D

Hehe I like that.  Never got a chance to actualy read the entire article that I printed out this morning, but I think at the time it was saying that 21 americans were being held hostage.  However, some of the numbers they threw out made me want to go get some corperate sponsers and do some pirate hunting (got some great ideas).  Only problem is, I can sympathize with the pirates, to a point.  It's got to suck being from a country that is in total chaos and about the only way to make a living is piracy (I know, they are making a choice here and could leave the country or something else, just saying for arguments sake that I can sympathize).

I prefer to say that I understand but don't approve rather than say I sympathize.
