Red, Limbaugh was way past those techniques in the mid 80's when I started listening to his schtick. He and Gingrich started the whole spin and disrepect movement. Nothing would please me more to see them both fail in their attempt to reassert the politics of innuendo and character assassination. They are scum.

You seem okay though. 8)

Okay all of you who tend to lean to the left, any of you buy any of her arguments?  Really?

WOW!

Here's an interesting video of Garafalo and Olbermann's hypocrisy on acceptance of dissent:

By that same token though, I don't like being told by Neo-cons (I have a few that I work with) that I'm unpatriotic if I don't support the war in Iraq, which I don't.  To which I reply "I support all the troops there, but the war, no".  They also tell me I'm no better than a murderer if I support a woman's right to choose.

I ask them what flavor of Kool-Aid they're drinking that week.

;D

By another same token, I would not expect you to spend an evening being entertained by these folks.  I would not imply that you had a closed mind because you chose not to go.

I thought I remember watching Bill on HBO in the late 70s before he moved to network (ABC?) TV.

It's probably a stretch to say Limbaugh and Gingrich invented the spin and disrespect movement but they certainly have taken advantage of it.  It's been going on in politics (both sides) probably forever.   I remember a little of High School history.  There were some pretty nasty campaigns and programs throughout all of US history.  Instant access media makes it all available to many times more people than before.

Not much of a choice in these times I have to go to work, is there?  In your case, you had a choice to turn off the TV.  You stopped watching.  I'm all for that.

I can walk away at work but it's not nearly as easy as pressing the power button or channel button on the remote, is it?  I work in a small enough place I have to listen to it on more than one level.

Yep you are right.  The right is acting like the crazy left did when Bush was in office.  Any dissent when he was in office was unpatriotic.  Now if you dissent against the President you are considered a racist by the people that got called unpatriotic a couple of months ago.  It is quite humorous to see Fox news and the other news agencies flip sides.  Here is a nice look at both sides swapping http://www.thedailyshow.com/video/index.jhtml?videoId=224275&title=nationwide-tax-protests

We've all been in environments where we were a minority of some sort.  It's hard to ignore conversations over the cubicle walls but sometimes that's just what you have to do.  If it gets personal rather than ideological you could probably make a case for harrassment and go to HR at work.  You seem to like to get in the thick of things so I suspect you bring some of it on yourself.

Dang. You're just about as old as I am. Nasty was what the 1968 campaign was all about. Nixon was pretty blunt about doing whatever was necessary to get the "good" guys into office. LBJ was pretty good at it too. But that was pretty much dirty tricks and skullduggery. Lying, spying and tricks. Carter, Ford, Reagan not so much.

Then came the opening of the gates. Limbaugh and Gingrich became the masters of mass manipulation by using what they learned about media, consumer behavior and the marketing of perception as reality. Remember, Gingrich told his hordes which specific words to use when referring to democrats and their politics. He and Limbaugh raised the bar to include methods not seen since Goebbels. The biggest difference between them Maher and others is the addition of George Carlin style humor. Carlin made you laugh at the absurdity and irony of politics and life. Limbaugh personalizes it and narrows the humor to fit only liberals and democrats. His humor is the kind that makes you feel guilty about laughing.

IMO of course.

California GOP Decries Anti-Semitic Tea Party Activism

Last week's Tea Parties went forward despite the fact that there was a little bit of dispute over who owned the Tea Party movement -- a battle between followers of Ron Paul and a gaggle of fake grassroots organizations. Well, that conflict continues, even after the Tea Parties, and for good reason:

Citing the importance of the taxpayer movement in California, California Republican Party Chairman Ron Nehring today strongly condemned the use of anti-Semitic material used to promote the recent April 15 TEA party in San Mateo County.

"The taxpayer movement is incredibly important for California, and we applaud the success of the tea parties that took place across the state on April 15. Because we remain intensely interested in the growth and success of the mainstream taxpayer movement, we strongly condemn the use of anti-Semitic imagery in the promotion of the recent event in San Mateo County.

Chairman Nehring issued the statement in response to the use of anti-Semitic graphics used on the "Bay Area Ron Paul Campaign for Liberty" website in conjunction with the April 15 TEA Party in San Mateo. The image pictured a bucket of money being poured into a funnel with a Star of David on it, which in turn drips blood into a bottle where a person holding a Palestinian flag is seen drowning in blood. The text reads "Uncle Sam Reminds You: KEEP PAYING TAXES. The ongoing extermination of Palestinian Children Can't be Done Without Your Help."

So there you have it. The California GOP is angry a single piece of signage that expressed a decidedly vile opinion. Surely they are just getting started:
