Free stuff to do in Tulsa?

Go to the library.  Get a book or search for the end of the internet.

Stand on the street corner with a sign.  Who cares what it says.  Or go protest the protesters.

Intern somewhere.  Career oriented, something you think is interesting, whatever.  Life experience is as important as college.

Find a park with an outdoor basketball court and get in on a game.

Go for a bike ride, a long, long bike ride to somewhere you thought was too far to ride.

Things that require a little start up capital but are then free:

Disc golf.

Buy a used canoe for $100 and head to the river/lakes.

Buy some paints and have at it.  ($50 all in for acrylics, paper, brushes, get some books at the library)

Tulsa has tons of public tennis courts.  Used equipment is cheap. Play tennis.

Tulsa has club rugby.  Those guys are dedicated. It can't be expensive.

2. Garden Center:  The Tulsa Garden Center is free.  Stop and smell the roses.  Check out the Linnaeus gardens, greenhouse, the "dog park" arboretum, the Tulsa Historical Society (and statuary in front of it), the greenhouses, or whatever is going on inside the Garden Center that day.  Also a good place to people watch.

I second this suggestion.  I spent an entire afternoon a couple weekends ago in this area.  Walked around Woodward Park, the Arboretum, and the Rose Garden and also went inside the Garden Center which is in an old mansion where they were having a sale of all kinds of tomato and pepper plants.  We also walked through the adjacent greenhouse with tropical plants and the Tulsa Historical Society museum which is great.  This area is also an easy walk to either Philbrook or to Utica Square through some of Tulsa's nicest neighborhoods.

You might also walk or bike the Midland Valley Trail which runs from the river across the pedestrian bridge through Maple Ridge (elevated above it in one section) and then right beside downtown up to OSU-Tulsa where it then follows the old railway all the way to Skiatook.  I haven't gone all the way up there yet but I hear it's nice once you get out of the city and into the forest crossing numerous creeks on old rail bridges.

Two bike rides I've done that I recommend are
1) follow the Creek trail which runs from the river all the way to Broken Arrow along the Creek Turnpike and South Loop.  It currently ends at 101st where you can get off and take country roads up to 71st and then go approx. 11 miles to the east to the Verdigris River where there is a lock and dam where 71st ends.  Kinda cool to be biking through river valley farmland and then all of a sudden you are at the river and see barges and boats using the locks.
2) leave the river trail where it ends at the Creek Tpk. and use River Rd./Delaware down to 121st and then head east to Memorial.  Go south on Memorial across the bridge to 171st and then head east into the Conjada Mountains, an area of hills by the river near Leonard and Stone Bluff.  There is a nice winery down there called Stone Bluff Cellars and it's very scenic.

Many of the 'free events' in tulsa are paid for by local business sponsors and organizations. please make sure to visit and support those that provide the financing for the events you attend.

looking for fun things to do in the evenings with spending little to no cash.

I want to get out and experience the city on nights when there isn't a festival to go to like Mayfest or something like that. Would really appreciate the help.

I went back and reread the original post.  forevertulsa89 is looking for things to do in the evening mostly.  They seem to be more of the night creature.   And they are wanting stuff to do on those evenings when there is no major entertainment happening.   I have to rethink my recommendations.

If you are here this weekend, it costs nothing to browse the Blue Dome Arts Festival and Mayfest.

Has anyone mentioned the Utica Square free concerts every thursday night?  http://uticasquare.com/downloads/09USP4776_SFN_2009.pdf pdf file

and Kingspoint Village is having a summer concert series also
http://www.kingspointevillage.com/events/events.htm

And Riverwalk Crossing has a great summer series
http://www.riverwalkcrossing.com/events.html

That makes for a LOT of FREE music over the summer.

I am really looking forward to all of the free live music this summer. I went out to Mayfest last night and tonight, but left tonight before the storms hit. Definitely going back tomorrow for the Old 97's. I really appreciate all the ideas both at night and during the day. I will be working at the Linnaeus Teaching Garden this summer as their new intern and am really looking forward to that and wanted to make sure I got the most out of my Tulsa summer evenings before it's back to school in the fall. Now I just have to get all of these great ideas organized so I don't miss a beat.
