Internet Service Providers (ISP) in Tulsa

Trying to figure out which internet service provider to choose from and honestly think COX is WAYYY to expensive.  19.95 for 3 months and then 45 dollars a month there after?  Are you kidding me?  Comcast and TimeWarner (both cable internet providers) are cheaper than that and have longer promotion deals that are 6 or 12 months.  Just wondering which providers are there in Tulsa that service 74133 zip code.  I have ClearWire right now but they don't service OK closest is TX.  I don't want to spend more than 35 bucks a month on Broadband internet.  Anyone have any suggestions.

There must be no competition out there for COX to provide such an outrageous late 90's/early 2000's prices for there cable internet.

Does anyone know if there is Verizon FIOS or ATT U-Verse out there? (I would pay COX prices for those two)

ATT UVerse is spotty..you'll need to check.  I'll NEVER use ATT again after my debacle in 2000.

I do use Cox, and if you know what you're doing, you can get decent rates.  If you just want internet and nothing else, that's going to cost a premium.  And no, Cox doesn't have any cable competition in the area whatsoever.  They have a city franchise agreement IIRC.  So they can pretty much set their rates.  They're the fastest game in town too.  No fios yet; Verizon just got wireless phone service her last year and have pretty much said FIOS is not really a big concern of theirs around these parts.

I use Cox as part of a bundle and (think I) pay less than that.  For a crap ton of channels, HD, and internet I think it is $120 a month (still really expensive).  I have always had an internet connection and download VERY fast (2000 k/s is not unheard of).

Before that I had AT&T dsl.  It was a bit more of a pain because you had to "dial in" and was not as reliable, though it was probably 95% reliable or so.  It was also not as fast (400k/s down).  I believe I paid $25 a month.  When I got rid of my landland it became prohibitively expensive. 

There are also Satellite providers and people that piggyback on either Cox or AT&T's connections.

AT&T has DSL for $35 and $30.  Cox just has the super fast speed for $45 and slow speed for $30.  Their internet prices suck if you don't bundle.  AT&T has U-Verse if you want TV and internet and I heard it is pretty good.  We do not have FIOS here and I don't know if we ever will.  There is fiber internet available but it is really for businesses that need super high speeds for $250-1000 a month.

I use Cox for internet, DirecTV for television, and Magic Jack for phone.  Since Cox is not competitive on their internet price so I call them about once a year and threaten to cancel if they do not match or beat AT&T's price.  Sometimes they will give me a good deal for 3 or 6 months to keep me.

I wish there was more competition to get the prices lower.

I had a partial bundle with cox. The internet and television.
I had their 1.5 meg and 3 digital boxes and 6 TVs hooked up. 135 Dollars a Month.
They lost the NASCAR in-car to DirecTV so I switched to Direct and kept their basic in my kitchen for locals and channel 3, bumped their internet up to 9 meg(actually getting 14 in my neighborhood)
and the cost is now 56 Dollars a Month.
I have Windstream home phone and would like to get rid of it but the wife has had that number forever and wont let me do it so i'm stuck paying them 42 Dollars a month. They are offering a bundle of phone and internet for 49 Dollars a month forever. But I dont qualify for that promotion(1.5 meg)
There are some options out there but it really depends on where you live.

I'm on Cox with internet and all the basic H-D and expanded programming for $98 a month with all taxes in that price.  I don't have any sports packages or premium movie channel packages (i.e. HBO, Showtime).  I have no need for a land line, so I passed on that.  The only thing I don't like about Cox was their gratuitous and un-announced rate hike at the first of the year.

FAIK, the Hi-Def does not cost extra, it's included in the digital package if you take the time to pick up an HD box.  A friend of mine has only the basic stuff (channel 72 and down, I believe) which was $40 a month or something like that.  She recently added internet to it and said it was $24 a month extra.

Cox has the 12mbps plan for 29.99 a month for 12 months. This site lists some installation fees but I don't think they actually charge you that.

AT&T sucks. $35 for 6 mbps and a seemingly buggy service. I have to reboot my modem every few days, many times more frequently than I did with Cox.

The only advantage of AT&T for me is the access to all those wifi hotspots at Starbucks and other places for free. But I'll take Cox and their twice as fast internet over that.

Yea I got the 40GB the first one that came out with the 65nm CELL processor now the new 80 and 160 gbs have those since those are built off of the 40gb platform.  I had only one PS2 game (I'm a Gamefly member) which was GT Hero 2 and the guitar wasn't compatible with the ps3 so didn't need backward compatible (plus PSN network is doing a good job with having older games for downloads).  I did put Linux on it but I installed a new 250gb HDD on it so didn't put Linux back on that one.  I use the PS3 with my MediaServer (1TB machine with A LOT of movies) I built.  I LOVE that thing.  Guess that's why I wasn't looking for a bundle deal with cable.  Why pay for cable when you got the 'net and True HD LOL.

Guess you guys don't play InFAMOUS, Fight Night 4, Wolfenstein 3-D that one brings me back to 3rd grade...love old skool PC games!

Can't wait till March 2010...GOD OF WAR 3!!!

Nope, trust me, NHL 09.  MLB games are about as boring as the real thing is to watch.  Sorry, just ain't my thing.  I've always said that baseball is 10 minutes of action contained in a wrapper of 2.5 hours of utter boredom.

You obviously haven't played The Show. Not nearly as much sitting around and waiting as you'd expect. Road to the Show is probably the best career mode on any video game, period. And I hate watching baseball on TV.

And yes, Cherish, I'm about 3/4ths of the way through infamous as we speak, and I'll probably be picking up the new fight night shortly. I'm waiting very impatiently for Uncharted 2. IMO, the first Uncharted is one of the best video games of all time. Excellent story, excellent gameplay, excellent graphics, excellent voice acting, it's got the whole package. It really should have been game of the year. It got shafted because of the disdain professional reviewers had for the PS3 at the time.

NHL 09 and I'm guessing 10 has a similar mode called 'Be A Pro', which I've found quite enterntaining.  You start out in the AHL and work your way to the bigs.  It also has a Dynasty mode (where you are the GM and control all aspects of your team) and another one that the name escapes me, but you essentially take on the persona of a real life NHL player.

I'm not knocking the baseball games, baseball just ain't my thing.  If I go to a baseball game in town here, it's usually to hang out and have a few beers with the guys.  Hockey...well, it's pretty much the same thing but there's usually a good chance you'll see a fight at some point of the game (sometimes on the ice too).

Sounds similar to RTTS. I guess they're sharing notes.

One of the nice things about playing in RTTS mode is that it fast forwards through the parts of the game your player has nothing to do with. It makes the game much more tolerable.
