There's a press conference on CNN right now, Sarah Palin has stepped down as Alaska's governor.

The way I'm seeing it reported right now is that she's not stepping down, but she's not seeking re-election.  A little difference there.

cynical

Nope.  She's stepping down effective 7/26 and handing the job over to the Lt. Gov.

Wow..

Thx Alaska, I am going to go ahead and take off a year and a half early.

That means she is going to be MIA from her post for about 2 out of the 4 years if you include the election time off...

Ahhh, Sarah.  The woman just can't help herself.  She gives and gives and gives.

The only thing she left out was whether she'd seek the Republican presidential nomination in 2012.
Ed

May you live in interesting times.

Didn't hear you complaining when Obama went MIA from the senate for almost two years to run for president.

First, He didn't quit, he still made most of the votes  (Barack Obama missed 314 of 1300 roll call votes (24%) since Jan 6, 2005) http://www.govtrack.us/congress/person.xpd?id=400629&tab=votes
Second, He wasn't the ONLY Senator.  Palin was the only Governor...

I also didn't complain that McCain missed votes in the Senate.  The only reason why I mention Palin's absence is because she is quitting.  In the future she will throw up how awesome she was as the Governor of Alaska when she only was really acting as Gov. for 2 out of the 4 years.

Besides, what does Obama have to do with this?

I think I'll tell my boss I'm only going to work 30 hrs/week while I look for a better job. While I'm looking, I want all my health care and other benefits as well as being paid my full salary.

(I know Obama isn't the only one to do this, just the only one you posted numbers for. I expect others are similar.)

Trogs, you need to understand the affliction that is known as ODS.  Gweeds is a clinical study in it.  You can usually tell an ODS sufferer.  He usually has his primary bookmark someone on the freerepublic.com website and/or Fox News.

Yeah, but she could practically see Russia for those two years.  ;)

I have no idea where you're getting this, but it seems entirely plausible. The whole thing was so rushed, so slipshod and so incoherent she had to be getting out in front of something that's about to drop.  Otherwise, why rush out the door in the middle of your term? And so long before she needs to get started for 2012.
