Speaking of which, did they ever find a professor to head up the research programs at the Helmerich ATRC? Last I heard they couldnt find someone willing to move to Tulsa for the job.

Move to Tulsa or OSU-Tulsa?  I can't blame him, OSU-Tulsa is pretty pathetic in its current form.  I hope that is changing.

I went by where this is going up at OSU the other day, just south of where Greenwood meets John Hope Franklin.  They are doing site work and the area is fenced off.  Hopefully this building comes right up to the street on Greenwood like the other OSU-Tulsa buildings.  It's not like there isn't parking to the north and south..

I wouldn't mind seeing smaller campus buildings like this built along and facing Greenwood at the east end of the campus and then the larger buildings going at the west end.  I could see a roundabout where Elgin and John Hope Franklin meet with the ATRC at the SW corner and new campus buildings on the other 4 corners with Elgin extended up the hill.  That of course would mean the crime-ridden apartments to the north would be demolished.  OSU needs to realize they don't need 200 acres and can instead develop along John Hope Franklin, up the hill on Elgin, and along Greenwood.  Leave the rest of the area west of Cincinnati for new housing to replace the neighborhood that was once there and build new dense student housing in the northern, industrial end of the Brady District and around the ballpark on Detroit and Elgin.  Really the 'ballpark district' from Archer to 244 would be a great area for urban student housing and associated retail/restaurants, and a natural extension of the Blue Dome district to the south.  Keeping Elgin focused as the main corridor between OSU and Blue Dome/the rest of downtown is important.  I'd rather see that than a suburban-style student apt. complex west of campus on Main or Boston isolated from the rest of Brady.

Senate panel OKs OETA asset plan

OKLAHOMA CITY - If the Oklahoma Educational Television Authority were to cease to exist, its assets would be transferred to the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education under a measure passed by a Senate panel Monday.

Another committee passed a bill that would require the OETA to make legislative proceedings available online or on television should resources become available.

The OETA has come under fire from some lawmakers who question whether it is a core function of state government. The entity receives some legislative appropriations.

Both measures were written by Senate Appropriations Committee Chairman Clark Jolley, R-Edmond.

In the event that the OETA is not reauthorized, Jolley said, his Senate Bill 867 would transfer is assets to the state regents.

"This is just a vehicle to be able to do something with it," he said.

The Senate Education Committee passed the measure 6-3. It now heads to the Senate Appropriations Committee.

The Senate Committee on General Government passed SB 429, which would authorize OETA to televise or make available via the Internet or other means the legislative session, including committee meetings.

The measure states that OETA would be authorized "to develop the Oklahoma Public Events Network (OPEN) in order to increase public access to and awareness of the operations of the Oklahoma Legislature and state government. OPEN shall be operated by the Authority in such a manner that citizens of this state will be able to view all daily sessions of the Legislature, including committee and subcommittee meetings, when it is in session, either on a television channel, on the Internet or by other means."

The bill passed 8-0 and heads to the Senate Appropriations Committee.

Daily sessions of the Legislature and committee meetings are available online through the House and Senate websites.
