And here is our first Monarch release - figured out I was calling it her but it's a male - oops.

Thanks - he's rotten too! I was surprised he didn't want to hold the butterfly - he's usually more adventurous than Natalie.

How's his toe?

Oh, bruised but not broken - Sweet of you to ask. He's a resiliant little boy.

Fun stuff from this morning's release. We ended up with 6 emerging today. Two flew off almost immediately, 3 are sitting outside on the flowers and 1 is still filling out his wings before I pull him out onto the flowers.

Logan getting brave and holding one - but immediately regretting it!

Two butterflies annoying each other with wing stretching - they did it for a minute and finally moved apart.

That leaves only 4 for the weekend! If anyone has milkweed (like custosnox) that wants rid of it, I will gladly come rescue it. Just let me know! I'm working on a butterfly flower bed.

It's too bad there is a giant, hairy insect at the center of those really nice looking wings. If it were like a little tiny bird at the center or tiny rabbit maybe, no one would be afraid to touch it.
