BMWofTulsa wants $120 to reset the light! They are out of their god dam minds!!!

I turned the car accessories on while the passenger seat was disconnected in my E36 so I know what the issue is lol.  Just need to have the dang light reset.

TIA!

You could buy one for $75.

Probably more sources are available, I just wanted an idea of what the tool cost.

RA, that's assuming what's advertised is not an attachment for a larger scanner which costs much more.

That's what I call sleaze. Get buddy buddy with one of the techs there and then slip them a $20 for it. ;)

Did you try European Autospecialists? http://europeanautospecialist.net/

Kurt over there is a really good guy.

$45 :(

Surely someone has 1 or 2 reset tools laying around in their sock drawer!!!

$45 is a deal considering your first estimate was $120. You have a BMW. If $45 dollars is a problem...hmmmm.....

You need to consider how much a mechanic invests in their tools and knowlege.  I don't know what you do for a living Mike, but I'm sure you appreciate getting paid for what you do and don't want people chiseling you down on your living.  It's worth $45 to get an irritating light turned off in the dash.

Do you call around and price doctors when you've got the flu?  C'mon cut loose of the chump change.

I was hoping to find another gear head that I could throw a $10 or $20 to max for 5 min of their time.  It's literally:

Turn car on to accessory mode
Pop the hood
Plug in the tool
Wait for it to initialize
Push a couple buttons
BOOM, light is reset
Done in under 2 min.

And yes, I know how much the tool costs... ~$70 lol.  You get two resets and the rest is pure profit!  Much more so if it's more than just a reset and an actually issue, then you get to charge troubleshooting fees!!! Lol

Can you tell I don't like to goto mechanics unless I have to?

Look for a local BMW Gorup on one of the many BMW forums. You may find someone with the reset tool.

Lol, I'm up to 6 Forums I'm asking this question!!!  Got em bookmarked in a Firefox tab so I can open them all up at once!

you might try www.bimmerpost.com or www.e90post.com.  I know you said you have an E36, but many people on the E90post forum have had or still have an E36.  Alot of them are gearheads and mod the **** out of their cars.  Hopefully someone on there can help ya out.

If you were to belong and contribute to a BMW group of some sort, you would probably already know someone with the reset tool who would do it for free.   Instead you want to come in as a non-contributing stranger and get a brother-in-law deal.  You had some sympathy at $120 but you lost mine at $45.

Yeah, I never participated in the local BMWCCA chapter, oh well.

I've got the BMWCCA sticker on my windshield.. does that count?  :-\

And the car is for sale, hence why I'm wanting to be a cheap donkey :(

-edit, lol, the board censors "ass" and converts it to donkey? Woot!

Asking $10K?  Will you take $9955 and I can go get that light turned off by TulsaMini's mechanic?
