I was curious, with the announcement of ORU being debt free,

http://www.newson6.com/global/story.asp?s=11183010

would there be new development or maybe alot of catching up on the upkeep?

I realize they've done some fixing of the campus but it could use more.

Anyone have any info?

sgrizzle

They are doing a major drainage/landscaping project right now.

ORU breaks ground on first building in 30 years

QuoteOral Roberts University formally broke ground Wednesday on its first new building in three decades.

The $12.5 million Armand Hammer Alumni-Student Center will be located on vacant land just east of the prayer tower on campus.

"I told the architects I wanted this to be about food, fun and fellowship," ORU President Mark Rutland told several hundred students, alumni and employees who gathered for the ceremony. "This is a long-time dream coming to pass."

He said plans to build a student union were discussed years ago, but were set aside until recently.

Rutland said the 28,000-square-foot building is expected to be open by January, 2012.

Jacquie Cardone, who chaired the fundraising drive for the building with her husband, Michael Cardone, said the new building sends a message to the community that "we're alive and we're on the move ... Student life here on this campus is a priority."

The drive raised the money to fully fund the project.

Oh, so Richard's DUI arrest was just a precursor of PR for this project.  It's all perfectly clear now!

I no longer care what they do....I'm fine with anything at 81st and Lewis. The Greens saved this from becoming a white elephant or some extremist taking the place over and making us all look like dopes for another 30 years....

Oh yeah.

They'd better hurry up with construction; they only have 7 days remaining in January!

@Teatownclown: You really think ORU isn't a giant white elephant full of extremists already?
Change never happened because people were happy with the status quo.

Not today. Used to be.

Just glad it's not deep in debt, dilapidated, and dopey....

I wonder if Richard is a Juggalo?

Wonder what the building will look like?  The campus is home to one of the worlds largest collections of "Furutist" architecture.  Second only to perhaps Brazilia the capital of Brazil.  I hope the new building is either very modern and or has some futurist look to it.

It's so futuristic we can't see 'em constructing it!

Sorry, I couldn't restrain it any longer...

Wait....Armand Hammer?  Really?

When I was a kid, I always thought it was Arm and Hammer because of the picture on the box of baking soda.
