Small pet warning

I meant to post this yesterday but last night reminded me.

Anyone around the 21st and Yale area with small pets that go outside (Steve, Conan, et al)...the wife and I have noticed a very un-shy fox running around our neighborhood across Yale from Lortondale in Mayo Meadow.

It's larger than most I've seen in the area so if you have a pet that looks like fox food (Butch, cough cough), keep an eye on them.

Thanks Townsend, I don't think his leopard print urban assault cammo will shield him very well, either.  I listen when I hear these things, two of his puppies (when they were full grown) were killed by coyotes out near 101st & Sheridan about six years ago.

I hadn't seen a fox around the area for about a year or so and kind of forget about our "urban wilderness".

Oh geez dude, you're baiting the fox.

sgrizzle

Hate to tell you, but if you drive through midtown at the right times, there is a fox every few hundred feet. It' the racoons the size (and shape) of bean bag chairs that worry me more. The foxes are likely after the rabbits, which are thick in midtown.

Tell me about it.  My youngest and fastest decided it was a good time to kill a rabbit in my back yard this morning.  I was "ending the suffering" at 5:30 AM with the back side of a shovel.  Works better than coffee.

Butch is about rabbit size Scott, just not as meaty, I would assume.

We had a neighbor lose a small Shih Tzu to an owl or hawk when I lived out at 105th & Yale.

Was it about the size of this fox, on the other side of the expressway?

Tough to tell from the pic but it was about the size of a medium schnauzer.

Thanks Townsend.  My current new cat Aruba, as well as my 18 year old cat Zingo that I recenty lossed, are exclusively indoor pets, never let outside.  In my opinion, any cat owner that lets their cats roam around outside unleashed are irresponsible owners and do not deserve to have a cat.  And they are in violation of city pet laws too.

I live in Lortondale on 26 street east of Yale, and have seen foxes, racoons, rabbits, all multitude of wildlife in the neighborhood over the past 25 years.  I had a racoon in my back yard last winter, and have seen a grey fox or two many times.

And then there's this Foxx:

I live in east Tulsa (barely, almost in Broken Arrow) and there are coyotes that are snatching up small dogs.  One night I heard them scratching on the fence wanting to eat my little weiner dogs.

Anyone else fight back the urge to make a comment on this one?  C'mon, show of hands.
