This will be unreal. Look for a massive fly out from Haiti and into all points. Help from the USA will be huge and possibly in the form of providing refuge in the continental states. This will unfold as an American campaign for help.

Already the estimate is 100,000 dead.

51st state?

^ yeah, i'm down for helping out those folks for sure.  all the people of the islands should be allowed to dwell in their respective mother lands for a good long time, and especially to escape the turbulence of inevitable shifts that the islands are bound to undergo.  But let them have plenty of time to bemoan their dead, and plenty of time to figure out what is a worthwhile cause: if it is to return and build upon solid foundations, and to sow for what shall be surely reaped, then it will be to return.

All will be all right, in a PR move Wyclef Jean has already returned to his home land (he was born in Haiti) to "help out".

Does Tulsa have much of a Haitian community?  I know Miami, New York, and DC all do along with Montreal and to a lesser extent Atlanta and Houston.  I'm sure there will be a huge influx of Haitians coming into the U.S. for the next few months, it will be interesting to see how many make their way to Tulsa.

This is a terrible tragedy.

Collapsed hospitals, buildings that were not build to withstand a quake tumbling to rubble.

People trapped and screaming. No way emergency responders are going to be able to help a large majority of those injured.

My mom used to donate to a child in Haiti through one of those programs where they send you a picture and an occasional letter. That's about as close as a 'Tulsa connection' I think we have here. But I just can't imagine the pain those people must be in.

Rush Limbaugh is an absolute waste of human flesh.

Conservatives like Limbaugh attack Obama for speaking out so soon on the Haiti disaster

By John Amato Wednesday Jan 13, 2010 2:00pm
"As soon as the news of the massive Haitian earthquake broke, and after the horror of the event had sunk in, I knew that President Obama would be attacked immediately over it no matter how he responded by teabaggers and movement conservatives.

That's a sad statement to make, but after witnessing the behavior of the right wingers in America since Obama was elected in 2009, it wasn't that big a reach.

Rush Limbaugh leads the way, proclaiming exactly what I figured the insane right would say.

Obama discussed Haitian earthquake sooner than attempted Christmas bombing; "Did he apologize for America?"

With thousands of people dead already and as the suffering continues in Haiti, Limbaugh and his ilk only care about one thing: Destroying Obama. "

Another waste of human flesh

Pat Robertson Blames Earthquake on Pact Haitians Made with Satan
Source: ABC News

"On the Christian Broadcasting Network’s “700 Club” today, after a lengthy interview with a missionary who talked about helping the victims earthquake in Haiti, Rev. Pat Robertson had some interesting thoughts as to why the earthquake struck the impoverished nation:

"And you know, Kristi, something happened a long time ago in Haiti, and people might not want to talk about it.

"They were under the heel of the French, uh, you know Napoleon the 3rd and whatever, and they got together and swore a pact to the Devil.

"They said, 'We will serve you if you'll get us free from the French.'

Politicizing natural disasters is the lowest of the low.  BTW- I'd be eternally grateful to the first conservative lawmaker who rebukes Limpbaugh for calling our President "Barack The Magic Negro".  I don't give two shits if it was some moron at the LA Times who first coined it.  It does not need to be repeated and crosses the line.

Robertson just crossed over into Fred Phelps territory.

But it does keep Limpy in the news cycle, doesn't it?  Isn't that what he's really all about?

"The Obama administration scrambled to face its first overwhelming international disaster Wednesday — the devastating earthquake in Haiti — and emergency relief experts gave the White House high marks for its initial steps."

Man. That's intense. And for Fox, it's authentic news. Hard to report anything but the true stark reality of this story.

I bet we get Haiti back up and running faster than we did New Orleans or the Mississippi gulf coast after Hurricane Katrina.
