Foosball?... Heh heh.

I snookered many people out of their money in the day.  I was an OK state champion in my class (rookie/amateur) in 1986.  Not sure how well the elbows will hold up, but quit when people started using that stupid 'rollover' shot.  I still contend it's illegal.
I've actually got a guy in one of my classes that is paying for his college with his winnings from a foosball championship.  He walked away with $30k

A lot more lucrative now than it was back in my day.  My take for winning state championship in my class/division was $500.  The state tourney was at a place in Moore on I-35.  Can't remember the name to save my life now.  I know a lot of them were being held a Magoo's for a while but not sure now.

What's $30K buy now?  About 2 semesters?

Hey guys.

Thanks to everyone for the kind words. You've helped make our opening at The Max Retropub a very memorable one. We've had great crowds since we've opened and have had great feedback. I just got home from being there tonight and we had a nice crowd there eating free popcorn, playing games, and watching The Goonies on Monday Night Movie Night.

I'll try to answer as many questions as I can remember.

1. Foosball - We don't have any there right now, but we've got plans to expand the space, so start lobbying now for some foosball in the back.
2. The Max is family friendly....if your whole family is over 21.
3. There is no old school basketball game. As much as I wanted one (trust me...I wanted one), they take up tons of space and we just didn't have much space to spare. Be on the lookout for one of those if/when we expand our space. I own at those games....they're the only arcade style game I'm any good at, in fact.
4. We've got a few more tables and chairs coming this week. Not a ton, but a few. There will be more places to sit in the future.
5. 30K buys more than 2 semesters if you go to the right school.

Some other interesting facts:
- Our Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle game, Galaga, G.I. Joe, and Killer Instinct should be arriving this week as well as another token machine. We'll rotate the games in and out regularly, so that there's always something new to play.
- We have 6 beers on tap right now, but that selection will be growing to around 10 when our walk-in cooler arrives.
- We always have Coors Banquet on draft for $2
- We always have at least two Marshall beers on Tap
- We always have Guinness on tap
- My favorite beer in the world (Bellhaven Ale) is on tap...Delicious.
- We have more cocktails than any bar in town. I'll bet a hot dog on that. We carry tons of liquor as well as some mixers that are sure to make you smile: Yoo-Hoo, Sobe Orange Cream, Jones Green Apple, Capri-Sun, Jolt Cola, and more. Stay tuned for our printed Cocktail menu (coming soon, promise), with great cocktails named after great things from the past. Think Hawaii Five-O, The Love Boat, The Fantasy Island, Whitesnake, The Jesse Spano, etc.
- Happy Hour specials run from 2-6 and always include some free tokens and great specials on food and beer
- Speaking of food. By Wednesday, we'll have Nachos, Frito Chili Pie, Hot Dogs, Brats, Italian Sausage, Popcorn, and Pretzels. They're all a stepped up version of what you'd find at the movies. Made from scratch ingredients, home-made chili and queso, and brick-oven baked pretzels. Really good junk food.
- Tuesday night is always free play. That's right. Games are always free on Tuesday night.
- Wednesday night is Live Event Trivia like we do at Joe Momma's, only it's retro themed.
- Thursday night is tournament night. Different game every week. $5 to enter. Winner takes all.
- Live music and 80's DJs on the weekends.
- Retro Karaoke a few times a month
- Hot dog eating contest once a month
- Pretzels for Prostates in October. We're partnering with Fassler Hall (Elliot's new place on Elgin that also sells pretzels) to raise some money for prostate cancer the week between the fair and Oktoberfest. We're throwing Tulsa's biggest and baddest street party. An 80's street party in front of The Max and an Oktoberfest party in front of Fassler. The street will be closed from 1st to 4th for a crazy Blue Dome shindig like you've never seen.
- Our website is up. www.themaxretropub.com
- Lastly...Our grand opening party is this weekend. We'll have KITT, The Delorean, The Ectomobile, The Ghostbusters, a DJ,  an 80's costume contest, and some surprises. Come out to The Max and help us celebrate our grand opening!

Thanks for all of your support. I can always count on the Tulsa Now forum participants to support what's going on downtown.

See ya soon!

OK, I'm lobbying right now for foosball.  And they MUST be Tornado tables.  2 if you can fit them.  I'm coming this weekend, so maybe I'll lobby for them in person.

I'm talking TCC here, that will buy an entire associates degree and have plenty left over.

Only thing that I would recommend is having a designated order spot at the bar.  It took me forever to get through those sitting at the bar to order a drink.

This weekend sounds like it's going to be awsome, doubt I'll be able to make it though.  I'll be super happy if I do.

sgrizzle

Now if only it was open early, at least occasionally, for lunch...

I was thinking of a friend that just sent his son through TU on a 4 year degree.

Thanks for the awesome response.  Looking forward to more great stuff.

Blake, sounds like you've got a major hit on your hands!  Great job!

Red- I've got a daughter in the architecture program at OU, about $4500 per semester for tuition.  Let's not even get into the living expenses of a 20 year-old.  She lives off campus in a house she shares with three friends.  Off the top of my head, rent, utilities, and groceries is about another $3000.

My other daughter is talking about trying out for the cheer squad at TU.  **shuddering facepalm**

Is cheer a scholarship sport/activity (not sure how TU looks at it) at TU?

Minimal scholarships for cheer is my understanding.  Thus far I've managed to remain out of debt paying for college, but next year is an overlap year on the girls.  I want them to have the best educational opportunities but TU doesn't make a whole lot of sense for an early childhood ed degree, more like NSU.

I plan on coming to check out the Retropub for HH on a Friday after work soon.

I went to TU and recommend it if you can afford it.  I am still paying for it.  I turned down a scholarship to OSU to pay for TU  :)
