I guess that's one less incumbent who needs to worry about the 2010 mid-terms.

Slong, Jack!

Stay classy there, Conan... did you get some estrogen on loan from Michelle Maulkin?   :-*

John Murtha served our country in Vietnam.
He served his district as a conservative democrat for decades.
He changed his mind on the war in Iraq....

Kinda reminds me of my extended family back when I was a kid.... ironically enough, the MOST PATRIOTIC AMERICANS weren't the family members I had who ACTUALLY FOUGHT in Vietnam.  It was the family members who worked for Rockwell and MacDonnell Douglas who were always the most patriotic.... funny dat.  Hmmm, I wonder why that is?

The Vietnam vets are getting old..... need more vets from Iraq and Afghanistan in political office from both parties....

RIP, Rep. Murtha.

Murtha was a crook. Nice tribute though, Ruf

I wouldn't know Michele Maulkin if she knocked on my door. Nice stereotype. I thought my comment was more like something Butch Maddow would say.

No.  He wasn't.
At least no more than any other politician.

Do you ever listen to yourself?
Geez.

The guy fought in Vietnam, yet the chickenhawks of the republican party played ridiculous political games to attack his character.... and you're drinking their koolaid.

He fought for his country and served his district.... what have YOU done?

You know, you may be a perfectly decent person, but I find your athletic skills mediocre and your politics abysmal....

The guy died.
You'd think a DECENT human being would give the politics a rest every now and then.

Although he denied, Nixon was a crook too.

I honored him when he died.

Unlike a lot of the loon righties I've seen on the tube and on the interwebs...

I hate to agree with Ruf in this case.

Quit taking yourselves so seriously, sheesh.

Death rate's been the same for millions of years:

One per person.

I hope you guys have a great laugh on me and talk openly about what a conservative doosh bag I was when I'm gone.

Rep. Murtha was a decorated Viet Nam vet turned crook.  I admire him for his service in Viet Nam, his record afterwards wasn't so sterling.  There are some pissed off Marine vets out there who thought Murtha turned his back on them.  Remember Hiditha?

Also an "unindicted co-conspirator" in ABSCAM.

I didn't. I would have happily thumbed my nose at Nixon's coffin. Ditto for Jerry Falwell. If you think a guy's a shyster and a criminal, I see no reason to suddenly treat him with respect when he's dead.

I disagree. While no fan of either of the two above-mentioned people, they both did accomplish some pretty good things, despite their personal failings. Almost everyone was good for something, and when they die, I try to show respect and remember the good they did.

There are exceptions. I changed my views on capital punishment on Timothy McVeigh.

Were you in favor of executing T McV?

I've lost too many 50/50 guesses.
