Answer me this.

Who runs full page color ads in the Tulsa World on a regular basis?  Answer  Hospitals and Universities.

Who has money to burn and whose prices are out of wack with the rest of the economy?  Hospitals and Universities.

Healthcare and Higher Learning used to be something of a public trust but now it's all about making a buck and it's damaging us.

Hospitals and universities are supporting those hideous liberal Lortons with their ads.  ;)  (couldn't resist, buddy)

Hospitals and Universities also get a lot of private donations.  I'm curious what their rates would be like if they didn't get donations.

In reality, my understanding is that St. John and St. Francis are both chartered as non-profit hospitals.  But they plough a ton back into infrastructure on their campuses and building new campuses.

Yeah.  The pain that hospitals relieve, the lives they help bring into the world, the lives they save, and the medical innovations that occur there are nothing but smoke and mirror BS. All that crap should be free.
FAIL.

Not in this country.  Both are FOR PROFIT industries.  That is why The Unite States has the best healthcare in the world and the best higher education system in the world.

Had they been "something of a public trust," we would be sick and stupid.

When attacked by a mob of clowns, always go for the juggler.

I think it's funny that within your rhetorical world there's only room for the status quo or nothing.  It's either the way it is now or we'll live in a world without hospitals.  I'm not sure why it's so hard to imagine a third way where things are better for everybody.  You know:  affordable healthcare, innovation, AND profits for the industry.

I think its funny that you couldn't see I was responding to an over the top BS post. Also, I have already stated that some reform is needed and made suggestions (portability, tort reform, health savings accounts). Next time you want to be clever or something, think first.

Can we get a sarcasm on and sarcasm off flag, kind of like the smiley faces, to be blatantly obvious to the most casual observer?

For profit higher education? University of Phoenix and Platt College?

And we simply don't have the best healthcare system in the world, far from it, just the most expensive.

Oh, no, not that again.  You aren't going to start spouting off the stats on life expectency without considering we are the fattest and most sedentary nation on earth again, are you?  We DO have the most abused health care system on earth, that's one reason it's so expensive, amongst others.

Perhaps that's an indication of how useless our health care system is at preventative medicine.

We're really good at lifesaving heroics, medical devices, and patent drugs. Which is good, since our complete failure on the preventative medicine front makes those things more needed here in the US.

Oh well, at least we seem to have reached a plateau of fatness, despite my best efforts.

The best key to preventative medicine lies in the hands of the individual.  The biggest problem in "preventative medicine" for those who have one, is people taking a reactionary approach in accessing the healthcare system and it's got little, if anything, to do with not having access to it.  It's laziness, indifference, and fear of some snot-nosed physician telling them to put down the pork rinds, exercize, and quit smoking.

Take a quick Google search of all the free clinics available in any urban area of the United States.  There's no shortage of resources available.
