Just drove by the union protesters in front of the Montereau on my way back from lunch.

4 sitting in a circle playing cards.

1 sitting on a folding chair.

2 sleeping in the grass.

1 holding a sign. . .upside down!

I honked and he gave me a thumbs up.

Carpenter's union?  Nice use of union dues.

Winter must be over...saw them in front of TU yesterday.  I wonder if then can claim a single victory in Tulsa with their approach?

They're homeless people hired by the carpenter's union.
Paid non-union wages to protest against non-union wages.
I think they have done quite a bit to reinforce anti-union sentiment in Tulsa.

I think we should organize a protest of the protestors.

I am thinking signs that say "down with protests!" and chants that say "leave them alone".

Had lunch at Compadre's today.  The non-union protesters, hired by the union to protest against non-union hiring, look like they are dieing in the heat.  Didn't see any of them hydrating.

I think some of us from the office are going to drop off a case of cold water for them.

Good of you.  Got any literature to give them?

The irony, of course, is that unions originally existed to protect people from those sort of working conditions.
A better irony would be if the union were fined by OSHA, or criminally charged.

I'm betting the union itself has a non-profit called "union services, inc" or something like that, for which all of these people work, and that business is non-union.

From the Tulsa World:
When asked if the homeless workers earn union pay and benefits, Lee said the workers are temporary employees without a benefits package because of their status. They earn $10 an hour and work between 20 and 30 hours a week.

They are employed by The Arkansas Regional Council of Carpenters according to the Department of Labor.

Again, a total waste of union dues which could be going into union member's pockets.  I'm really surprised there's not been a backlash by union members.

About $1.2 million in union dues since 2008.  $900K in 2008, and something in excess of $300K in 2009.  Don't know what they've spent this year because I cant find any additional disclosure.

Great... now the homeless need to worry about the IRS.

If I was among the protesting group... Don't think I would have picked a W K Warren project to target.
