Reading the Urban Tulsa Spring insert it has an ad for "Sports Junkie" opening in May at 18th and Boston.  The address is listed as 39 E. 18th.  I plugged it into google and it shows the law office next to Rehab.  Anyone know any details?  I can't really find much.

New bar going into the Rehab space...

Cool, another contrived sports bar...

The Rehab is closing on Wednesday...they are planning a big blowout for their last night.

I wonder why Rehab is closing?  I rarely went there, but it always seemed to have a pretty good following.

Seems to be a formula in the club business, ride a concept until it peaks and starts to wane, then close it and start another concept.

There was a big crowd there Friday night.  SoBo has become one of the more popular nightlife spots in recent years.  I'd say Brookside still is the most lively district for weekend nightlife, especially once Jewel reopens as Ivey with its rooftop bar, but SoBo may be a close second.  Blue Dome is getting there, and is the best area for live music, it just needs a few more venues.

Tulsa seems short on sports bars to me.  I tried watching the Cowboys-Redskins game at a bar over Christmas and it took me three tries to find somewhere that actually was going to have the sound on.  I tried the Hunt Club and they weren't even showing it!  Ended up at the White Owl.  If it takes a contrived place to turn the sound on and actually make sports the center of attention, I'm all for it.

stopped by the other day and they are already knocking it out!  this looks to be a great addition to the 18th & boston.

Will they serve food?  Sports is always better with beer, but is even more better with some greasy bar food, i.e., mini burgers and chicken wings.  The old Rehab was just alcohol.  Not sure if the building even has a kitchen.

Leons is decent, but i agree regarding the not enough legitament sports bars statement

TheTed

Leon's and the White Owl are both decent.

But there are way too many "sports bars" that have bands. Most sporting events take place in the evenings. It makes no sense. Might as well just stay home, mute my TV, turn up the stereo real loud and sit 40 feet away from my TV. It'd be pretty much the same, except with better music.

They dont have a choice but to serve food.....Depending on the location it's not easy to open up a bar that serves alchohol only.....
