Plethora of Motorcyle Cops on Highway 51

What's up with that?

On my way to take my kid to school this morning, there was a motorcycle cop on top of the bridge overlooking the Broken Arrow Highway on 41st Street.  It looked like he was clocking speed from up there.  Didn't think much of it.  And then about 20 minutes later, while driving on the Broken Arrow Highway heading east, near Highway 169, I saw 2 motorcycle cops on the side of the highway just waiting around.  A few yards ahead of them there were at least 2 or 3 cars that were pulled over for, I'm assuming speeding, by several motorcyle cops.  And on the left shoulder, there was another car pulled over by a motorcycle cop!

Is this Fundraising 101?

They have been doing this for years......

Power is nothing till you use it.

They also used to hang out at highway 51 as you enter downtown. I don't see them there as often anymore, but I did see one motorcycle there just a couple days ago.

When attacked by a mob of clowns, always go for the juggler.

Speeds have gone up since the layoffs. Make a big show every once in awhile and it goes back down.

I try to avoid Plethoras.

Of Pinada's?

They tend to sit on the entrance from Pittsburgh as well.

They had three stopped west bound coming up on 169 when I passed through coming back from working out.  I think they need to get out and do this more.  Too many people have gotten a bit out of hand with their speeding.

I haven't been in the car for a week. I figured surely the average speed had dropped without my contribution. ;)

It's pretty simply, anyone in Tulsa knows the deal:

If BA speed limit = 60mph, you go 70mph (ie between downtown and 169)
If BA speed limit = 65mph, you go 80mph (ie east of 169)

These flash mobs of cops will do nothing for the long term.

Cops need to have their presence known daily and let it be known that over 5mph = warning/ticket.

There were 8 of them eastbound before 169 at 10:15AM.  They were still there around 12:45 on both sides including on the overpass at 41st Street & BA clocking people and radioing ahead.

I also wish there were more of them on some major roads.

What happens when you get a ticket around here?  Can you go to traffic school to avoid paying a huge fee?  (Haven't had a ticket in Oklahoma since I moved here *knock on wood*)

People get speeding tickets here? Given the no points for tickets under 10mph over, it's hard to get more than a warning.

If you drive like an idiot like I used to you get tickets.

In fact you can get cuffed and told "I can throw your skinnyass in jail for going that fast boy."

Roscoe calmed himself after a while and undid the cuffs.

That was in the late 80's and he was great, giant chaw in and everything.

I got a ticket 2.5 years ago at the 244/44 interchange for going 73 in a 60 with the 65 sign about 100 feet ahead (doh).  He dropped it below the 10 and it didn't go on my insurance.  That one did not have a chaw in.

Maybe there is some advantage to them thinking AIDS is spread by spittle, if they are cleaning up and not spattering you with brown droplets...

(otherwise, blink fast when he says the word "speed")   ;D
