Unlike unborn humans, that tree had civil rights, Gweed.

They wouldn't like me much. I'd be there with a chainsaw and a cart, gathering firewood for my stove.

I noticed that guido made the "teabaggers" reference with no hint of grievance, though.

Now you have done it. The tree-huggers are going to stick it to you.
Power is nothing till you use it.

I think these folks do much more than hug trees.

Couple of things totally outside the politics of that situation.

If one had to pick the "single best friend" of humans on the planet today, it would arguably be trees.  Algae is pretty good, but not sure there is enough algal biomass to take the place of trees.

We are studying the wrong thing in the politicized (sp?) arena of global climate change.  We should be looking at the oxygen ratio of the atmosphere.  We evolved for a rate of somewhere close to 20%.  Is that changing?  If so, THAT could be a big problem.

Second, I am looking for a sawmill to accompany my chainsaw.  Portable on trailer so can tow it with me behind the truck.

Anyone been to see the giant redwoods??  Now, there is some great deck material!!

I don't share my thoughts because I think it will change the minds of people who think differently.  I share my thoughts to show the people who already think like me that they are not alone.

EarthDay is fine nothing wrong with a clean planet, BUT people and the economy should come first. People should not have to suffer in favor of the planet being clean. BTW Mother Nature is celebrating EarthDay with a nice big Volcano blast in Iceland. :-X

You might not be aware of this, but there's a reason old growth wood is so expensive. It's better than the crap we only let grow 15 or 20 years before cutting down. Tighter grain, more stable, just all around better. So yes, some wood is renewable on a reasonable timescale, but if you want quality, not so much.
