Continuing the drift, but I second Phat Philly's. Another plus is that they stay open until 3 or 4 on the weekends, making for a great sober-up spot.

Yes, they are great in many ways.  And the waffle fries...the waffle fries.

Drifting back a bit, is the bar that used to be Monkey Bar open again?  I think I saw Utopia as the name and the sand is gone in the back by the stage.  That's another location I'd try after a day game.

I have now been to three games at ONEOK Field and have not yet found the good beer.  Don't even mention "Thirsty Thursdays."  Where are they selling Marshall's, and what are the selections?  I would really like to support the local brewer, especially because he's brewing good stuff. Atlas cask-conditioned IPA, anyone?

Before/after the game, McNellie's has the best selection of beers in town, but it is packed on weekends.  Patience is a virtue.

If you've got time, go to the Huntclub in the Brady and sit up top on the patio.  Makes for a nice evening.  We walked there after our last game.  Or you can stop at the Gypsy coffee house half way to the Hunt club.  Or you can head West and go to the bars at Cains.

Bluedome for pizza at Joe Momma's is a good thing too.

Or just have a Marshall's at the ballpark and if it makes you crave more, go to almost any bar around the area and have some.  You said you weren't driving right?

I've sat in field reserved on both sides. First base side is much better in my mind.

If you sit on third base side, the sun is in your eyes.

First base side is closer to restrooms.

The only auxiliary scoreboard is on the third base side, so you have better scoreboard views on the first base side in that you can see the count without totally swiveling your head to centerfield.

First base side is closer to just about every destination outside the park, too.

Better downtown views on the third base side, but you can't see the UHaul truck.

Also FYI, there's a small stand with marshall's and choc behind home plate.

It's behind home plate, one of those small movable carts.

Both times I've been they've had Marshall Atlas IPA, and a Choc. I think it was last laugh.

I went to ONE baseball game in my entire life!  Yes, you read it right.  It was quite boring except for a few cute players.  I am more into basketball and soccer to be honest, but plan on going to a game one of these days just for something to do ;D

Don't shoot me now.  BTW, sometimes I see "free" tickets but never used them.  Are these meant only for getting into the park, and then you upgrade? ???

Got me beat, I haven't even made it to one.  I'm not a big sports fan, and baseball is even further down the list for me

Not a huge sports fan but baseball is one of a few things I can connect with my dad over. That and gaming.
Thank you,

It's different when you go to the field.

Go with some friends or family and enjoy the experience (weather, food, a beer or two).  Heckle the other team.  Look around and see if you know anyone.  Last time I was there we made new friends and had a great time.

+1 Though it isn't for everyone just like everyone else in life.

That's exactly how I see baseball games at ONEOK.  They're a social outing.  While I like baseball in general I reserve my close 'pitch by pitch' attention for one major league team out there.  There is something about being around a few thousand different people that I thoroughly enjoy.  For me, Drillers games are an excuse to get out and see and been seen.  It's Tulsa's place to go on a given night.  There you have promenading in walking around the field, you have picnicing in the park, outdoor dining, social cliques, beer fests, a variety of music, and a team competition in the middle to fill in the social gaps (no more awkward silence).

Let's hope over time the Blue Dome, Brady, and Greenwood fill in well so that the ballpark's edges are equally as engaging.

This year is a work in progress for the City, the ballpark, the surrounding districts.  Improvements have already been made.  One of my biggest concerns has already been addressed - they installed a 4-way stop at Elgin and Archer whereas before traffic on Archer didn't stop or even have to yeild to the heavy flow of pedestrians coming in to/out of the park.  I hear their working toward improving the ped. environment to/from the BlueDome across the tracks.

I'm very optimistic that in time that area around the stadium will be very pleasant as well.

So far my few ballpark engagements have been very enjoyable.  And I'm not sure if I like this yet but my teenage child enjoys going to the ballpark as well to promenade (they walk circles around the park all game long).  I've not gone with anyone but immediate family so far and have always run into quite a few people that I know from different corners of our city.

For pre-game experience, if you can stab a seat outside in front of JoeMammas, well, that's awesome.  But that's coming from someone who enjoys watching people pass by.

Have to go next Tuesday, power was out most of the afternoon and when it was back they could not take payment by card, well they tried but all cards where declined. If they would have been willing to wave the fee for buying online since I had no choice I would have gone tonights game.

Anyway see you next Tuesday.
Thank you,

I decided to stop at Fat Guys and grab a burger after class tonight.  After eating the great burger and drinking a really good shake, took a very short walk to take a look at the game from outside the fence.  I was impressed.  Looked good, and really did seem to be an event with a ballgame at the center.

It was a great game. The Drillers hit a home run in the first inning and kept the lead for a 2 to 1 win.

The best thing was the game was over in 2 hours and 15 minutes and my daughter got home by her regular bedtime.
