Mr. Semantics.

I think I've been doing a pretty good job of not correcting grammar and the totally incorrect use of words.  I have made a few corrections lately but not many.  I just read the posts out loud to find out what the post is trying to say.  Even that doesn't always work.

Facebook does play fast and loose with the privacy settings on a regular basis. It's hard to keep it so some random application (or now, website) that you visit doesn't get a free pass into your profile info.

That's very true.  There are definatly some tricks to keeping all of your info private.

Don't use apps is the first one.

I HATE Mafia Wars, Farmville, etc, etc, quid pro quo, blah, blah...

Ha, I'm actually a mod on one of the apps. To be honest, if it wasn't for the apps I would care less about FB.  But there are privacy settings that go beyond the apps that most people don't know about that have come about recently.  Has to do with their "partners".

I think it should be required that everyone must watch the south park facebook episode before signing onto facebook.

I think South Park is "ok" overall but when sometimes they pick a topic a completely nail it. This is one of them.

I finally figured out how to block updates on people's apps and I don't ever click on anything which wants to use all my information or friend's information.

All that said, I really don't quite understand what the app does at the top left of the forum page.

Same here.  If it asks me to install an app, I click the big red X in the top right corner.

New Facebook "features" from ABC news I saw this morning

Edited to add: I've changed all my settings.  I don't post anything that needs to stay secret but I got tired of all the crazies asking to friend me just to build their friend numbers.

What you mean you didn't friend Paul Tay?

I've read his comments on SGrizzle's...he needs more busy time.

Saw him on the side of the BA Tuesday towing some metal scraps during rush hour.  He needs to care more for the safety of others if not for himself.  (stepping off my small soap box)

Anyway, per the ads on the side of my Facebook, I've got some super hotties searching for me.  Sometimes I regret the security I have because the super hotties can't find me.  Would someone let the super hotties know I wish they could find me?  Thanks in advance.

I saw Paul's bike parked outside the downtown library yesterday with that big trailer on the back. He's being a jackass so he can block a full lane of traffic.  How he has kept from being run over so far is totally beyond me.  He advertises on Craigslist offering to build bicycle trailers which will carry up to 1500 pounds. He had one with a clothes washer on it.  I guess it's probably a good thing Paul doesn't appear to own a car...

The forum app just posts the title of the thread with a link to it.

Five hidden dangers of Facebook (Q&A)

May 8, 2010

Facebook claims that it has 400 million users. But are they well-protected from prying eyes, scammers, and unwanted marketers?

Not according to Joan Goodchild, senior editor of CSO (Chief Security Officer) Online.

She says your privacy may be at far greater risk of being violated than you know, when you log onto the social-networking site, due to security gaffes or marketing efforts by the company.

Facebook came under fire this past week, when 15 privacy and consumer protection organizations filed a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission, charging that the site, among other things, manipulates privacy settings to make users' personal information available for commercial use. Also, some Facebook users found their private chats accessible to everyone on their contact list--a major security breach that's left a lot of people wondering just how secure the site is.

In two words, asserts Goodchild: not very.

On "The Early Show on Saturday Morning," Goodchild spotlighted five dangers she says Facebook users expose themselves to, probably without being aware of them:

Your information is being shared with third parties
Privacy settings revert to a less safe default mode after each redesign
Facebook ads may contain malware
Your real friends unknowingly make you vulnerable
Scammers are creating fake profiles

Below is an edited transcript of the interview.
