Are they masters of creating demand for products which did not exist before, or what?  I've suspected some of the shenanigans like an Apple employee "leaving" his iPhone 4 at the bar were well-placed publicity stunts to help create demand.

After over 600,000 units were ordered yesterday, AT&T has cut off orders until they can get more inventory.  Another winner for Apple customers and share-holders.

crap...my upgrade eligibility date is tomorrow...I wonder what kind of price break you get on the 3GS now that the 4 is in pre-order...wait a minute...LOL.

You can order them directly from Apple.com (Although, they have a delayed shipping date).  Ordered one of them  this morning for my father.  He has a shipping date of 07/02.  I have decided to hold off for myself with the ever changing world of Android and not too mention Windows 7 phone on the way.  But I am certainly ready for something new after carrying around the 3G for a couple of years.

All upgrade dates in 2010 were moved up if you were ordering the iPhone.

iPhone 3gs is $99 w/ 2yr contract.

Not me, I specifically asked them and they would NOT move me up.  No late pays, nothing.  I'm on auto bill-pay with them.  I'm getting online tonight at midnight, by golly!

I've given a lot of thought about this over the years, and I think the pent-up demand is simply because Apple makes awesome products. And I don't use the word "awesome" frivolously.

When the first iPhone was introduced, it immediately rendered all other cellphones obsolete and made those companies look like Luddites. It was so far ahead of its time that years later, only one model -- the Android -- seems capable of actually competing.

The success of the iPhone isn't a fluke. Look at the other successes Apple has rolled out in recent years. OS-10 is damned near bulletproof as an operating system. iTunes transformed the digital music industry. iPod was the first really good Mp3 player, and still is. And I suspect iPad is going to revolutionize the portable computer industry as well.

And I speak as no Apple fanboy. I still type on PCs at work and at home. But I've tinkered with plenty of Apple products as well and, believe me, company's success is miles from being just hype. And, yes, I may just switch in a few years.

I'm hearing reports from multiple places that response for the iPhone 4 is 3-4 times that of previous models. I'm a longtime gadget nerd and keep up with all the latest in iPhones, Android, WebOs, Kin, etc. but I'm very surprised by this level of response. I've been running the new OS which launches next week for awhile now and it's definitely an improvement. It'll be interesting to get my hands on the new hardware as well.

report out earlier today that some orders which stated would arrive on 07/02 were actually pushed back until 07/14.   Several websites out there to review.....www.engadget.com, www.gizmodo.com and my fav......www.everythingicafe.com.  Some very useful info on them, everythingicafe.com has a app and great forums.

I'm going to wait until the fall, the first release of a new product always seems to have bugs that aren't uncovered until the product is live.

I do look forward to OS 4.0, but I'm not sure how much of an upgrade it's going to be on my 3G

Sgrizzle, you did the Beta download of 4.0? Are you 3G or 3GS?

Is there going to be a software upgrade to 3G equipment?  I didn't know that.

And...when will there ever be a TulsaNow app?  8)

iPhone 4 means nothing if the network drops calls like it does.

Damn, I got all excited about multi-tasking then figured out I have a lowly 3G so no go on that.  Not that I would use it that often.  Dolfan- I don't seem to have much a problem with dropped calls

I would say that 30-40% of my calls are dropped. It truly awful. I miss Verizon if only for the better coverage.

If only at&t offered a true, un-crippled Android phone, the iPhone would have a run for it's money.
Stripping an Android of all it's open source abilities and replacing it with crapware is apparently at&t's way of hanging on to it's fading Apple business model a little longer.
