Is there an Octoberfest this year?  I haven't heard a word about it or seen any advertising.  Usually there is quite a build-up to the event, but I haven't seen a thing.

It starts Thursday. I have heard Radio ads for it. Not much TV ads.

I wonder what radio stations?  I've heard zip on KRMG, 103.1 and 94.5.

This is one of Tulsa's best festivals.

I figure Oktoberfest is sort of like Mayfest, most people have an idea when it is (i.e. third weekend of October or X weeks after the end of the fair)therefore the need to advertise isn't terribly great. I also think more and more festivals (and businesses) are resorting to social networking.

It's a good time, but why are there more crappy 3.2 american beer stands in comparison to german beer stands? I'm not german, but I'd think a german would take offense to that type of thing.

It'd be like if I went to greekfest or shalom fest and had to walk past three mcdonald's stands to get to the actual ethnic food.

The majority of people don't have a taste for good beers is one reason, the other is people are cheap.  I'm just grateful they have real beer at Oktoberfest, even if it is slightly inconvenient to get to it.

I don't consider myself cheap when it comes to beer but how much are pitchers this year?  They were starting to blow my mind last time I was there.

The festivals are costly to put on, but the higher prices start to drive people away eventually.  I've not been back to Glendi in probably 10 years because I can have a really good lunch or dinner at Jim's if I want Greek food for about 1/2 the price, granted, you don't get the music and atmosphere, but I think it's pretty crowded at Glendi.  (Yes, I'm sure one of the other foodies on here will scold me about Jim's not being "real" Greek).

That's one reason why most of the serious drinking is at an Oktoberfest party in the 'hood and consumption at the festival is kept to a minimum.  I have to get one of Ludger's brat burgers, a pretzel, and a pitcher of good beer.  Sometimes I get a strudel too.

Belonging to the rowing club isn't bad at this time of year either... *cough*

If you bring a baby stroller, you can bring your own good beer.  I just wrap it up to look like a baby.  Keeps it cold too and the stroller gives you something to lean on.

I won't share how I solved the port-a-potty problem.
