Anyone know of a good place to get a ps3 repaired?  I have the dreaded YLOD....(yellow light of death) and I have a VERY important game save I need to get off of it before I buy a new one.  Unfortunately, I have a launch 60gb system and apparently these things are suseptible to getting too hot.  I called Fix it R us at 71st and Sheridan, and he said it would be 60-80 dollars with a 24hr turn around time.  Anyone ever had them repair anything? They used to be ABX computer at 51st and Sheridan by the Quiktrip and animal hospital.

I took a XBox to ABX several years ago. If its the guy who looks like he never see's the light of day. I would not use them. He ruined the XBox and just told me he would only charge me a shop fee of 35 Dollars. My stepson knows more about XBox sytems than that weird dude does.

There is a little store out here in Broken Arrow called Cellular repair plus. He is right across the street from Reasors on 71st and the B.A. 994-4495. He repairs all gaming systems.

I always thought an X-Box was a girl you don't date anymore

For what it's worth, a lot of game saves are locked and won't transfer to another PS3, even if you do the full system backup. I don't know if Sony replaces YLOD systems with a refurb or if they send you back the same one. When my Blu-Ray drive died, they did fix mine and send it back.

From the videos on YouTube it doesn't look terribly hard to give it the heat gun fix, but it looks like it would take a while.

well I did indeed end up taking it to ABX.  I went in first and talked with the guy and asked a few questions.  He seemed to know what he was talking about.  I dropped it off with a 40 dollar fee.  If he cant fix it, I will take it to the place in BA that you recommended. Thank you!

As far as doing it myself, I thought about it, I have built computers before, but I would have to buy some thermal paste, and a heat gun, which would set me back 45 bucks or so.  So I figured I would let them try to fix it.  I dont have alot of spare time as I still have yet to start shopping for Christmas gifts.  Sony does indeed repair the YLOD, but its 150 dollars for a refurbed unit, they dont send you back the original, plus my game disc (Gran Turismo 5) was still inside it.

I was reading through several forums about transferring your HD from one PS3 to another and I know the GT5 game save is protected, but supposedly  polyphony digital is going to release a batch to where you can transfer game saves.  Until that happens, I hope he can fix it and it will last until that happens.  My wife told me she would buy me a new ps3 for Christmas.  Right now best buy is giving a 50 dollar gift card with any ps3 console purchase, on top of the 10% coupon I have, a 25 dollar gift card and a 20 dollar rewardzone member cert.  So I should be able to get it down to about 235 or so.

Unless you spent it already, you also have a $10 reward zone certificate that's good until the 25th. ;)

still in the shop for repairs.  So much for 24hr turnaround service.  Jackasses.  None the less, my wife bought me a new ps3 sat morning from Best Buy.  They had a promotion of a 50 dollar gift card with any PS3 purchase, but when we checked out, the screen magically said "scan gift card and give to customer, amount 100 dollars".  So we ended up walking out with a 100 dollar gift card to best buy! woohoo.

looks like I should have listened to you in the first place.  After dropping it off last fri, they told me it would be ready either that afternoon or saturday at the latest. Stopped by Sat around 1300 and it still wasnt ready, they promised me Mon.  I called Mon around 1600, told me it would be ready by the end of the week.  Now today, I called and said they cant fix it, to come pick it up and get my money back! AWESOME!  I called the company above, explained my situation, said he was familiar with it, he has a 95% success rate, and he has 4 in his shop currently getting the same problem fixed.  I told him I will drop it off to him on Mon morning and he said it should be done by that afternoon.

Thanks again.  NEVER will do business with that place at 71st and sheridan again.

thanks again for recommending that place. Took it mon morning about 10am, it was done at 6pm.  Got it home, took the wife out to dinner, went back home, fired it up, and it worked, except now it wouldnt read any type of movie, game etc.  So I took it back at 930 the following morning, it needed a new blu ray drive, 80 dollars and an hr later, my game save was errr saved!!

Would recommend Cellular Repair across from Popeyes Chicken at 71st and Lynn Lane to anyone needing their cell phone, or gaming console fixed. There were always several people there either picking something up or dropping stuff off. After talking to the guys for about 20 min or so, they seem very knowledgable.

Thank you for the great review! We work very hard to get your game system back to you as soon a possible without any loss in data. We have been in business for a couple years and work on consoles every day and have seen every problem under the sun. Sometimes duel issues can happen and if so we will discount the repair as much a possible to make the repair worth the expense. We just want to say thank you to all of our customers who have chosen us to repair their game systems.
