Talk about bad luck. The Boat Show opened yesterday and runs through the 6th. As I drove by last nite for the opening I saw it had a pretty good turnout.

I suspect using "approved" contractors may have taken a toll in quality.

I hope(d) to get to the boat show on Friday.

I often wonder about the "approval" process.

They don't care about quality, just that a Native American get's the contract.

Is this a record snowfall? I don't remember one this bad.
Yes, it is a record snowfall. And the number of abandoned vehicles in the roads is ridiculous. Apparently a lot of folks didn't realize you need a shovel if you're going to get out in this kind of snow. To my (and the RAV4's) credit, I only got stuck once and was able to dig out.

On the bright side, the arterials have been plowed, not that it did a lot of good on most of 'em. The downside to that is that there are large piles of snow at the end of every intersecting street. Peoria should be passable north of 15th (the only segment I was on) to an experienced snow driver in just about any vehicle, as it's densely packed. 11th, Harvard, and 15th, on the other hand, should only be attempted in something at least as large as a mini-SUV.

There was a plow stuck in a 4-5 foot drift at 6th and Denver.

Stay home unless you've got a lot of ground clearance and snow tires or chains.

I'll post some pictures here in a bit if any of them came out...

Owasso PD reported US169 blocked and impassable due to abandoned cars.  The city is opening an emergency shelter at the Community Center on Cedar, just south of 76th Street.  This is west of the intersection of US169 and 76th St North.

Earlier, they reported treating one hypothermia case, a motorist stranded in his car for about 6 hours.

Snow plows are attempting to keep the roads into the hospitals clear.

I would hope so...

That's Elgin at 7th street. Two cars, a semi-truck, a bus, and you can't see it in the picture, but there's a dually on the other side of the semi helping to block 7th.

Also, Detroit is blocked at 5th (I think that's where this is, I could be a block off). There's a snow plow stuck in a 4 or 5 foot drift just west of this on 5th. Literally up to its windshield when I was there earlier.

As I mentioned, the RAV4 is barely enough. Before too much longer it probably won't be enough.

My car can't even make it out my driveway.  Looks like I'm not going anywhere for the next 3 days unless I'm walking.  It's not supposed to go above freezing until Saturday so none of this is melting this week.  With temps in the 30's this weekend and then another chance of snow next week we will be dealing with this for awhile...

My employer declared a "transportation emergency" which means if we show up, we work 8 hours and go home regardless of our scheduled work hours.  They didn't close the maintenance base, because if they did so, they'd have to pay us.

I suspect there's not much happening at the airport today.

Living in the burbs is not without expense.

From the City of Bixby web site:

"2010-11 WINTER MAINTENANCE SNOW ROUTES

The attached map indicates in green the 2010-11 Winter Maintenance Snow Routes established by the City of Bixby Public Works Department of major arterial streets and intersections which will be cleared/salted/sanded as need arises due to snow and/or ice accumulating conditions.

Entry into subdivisions will not be made by City snow/ice removal vehicles."

I believe I just heard on the TV (Ch 6) that American is closing the maintenance base for the first time in 64 years.

Thanks for the heads up on that Red. At least 111th will be cleared. Now, how do I get there from my house?
Someone get Hoss a pacifier.

I should check to see if Owasso has language similar to that.  I know it's conveniently located in the library, not the city website.  Harumph!
