Shouting at the television

Outside of football, I don't often shout at my TV set these days.  Reagan is dead, after all, and W is keeping a low profile.  But today I tried to watch Diane Sawyer interview Donald Rumsfeld about his new book Why in the world am I not in jail? Known and Unknown, and I simply couldn't stop myself.  You'll be relieved to know that no one in the Bush administration lied during the run up to the invasion.  He's just as smarmy and self-serving now as he was then.  It's truly disgusting.

And no, I won't be buying his book or even checking it out at the library.

Saving your pennies for Cheney's screed?

Is he (ghost) writing one too?  I may have to read that, if only to discover how he managed to shoot a guy and then extract an apology from him.

Are you planning to shoot someone?

I never realized how big the Donald's hands were.  I'm sure Mrs. Rumsfeld is quite happy.

Shoot?  Why no, I'd want to get medieval on his a##.  That line from Conan the Barbarian sums it up nicely.

"Conan, what is good in life?"

"To kill your enemies!  To see them run before you!  To hear the lamentations of their women!"

OK, just checking.  Please use obsolete medieval weapons.  I would hate to have common kitchen utensils, rope, common hand tools, even power tools banned as potential weapons.

I wrote a paper for my Ancient and Medieval History class on metallurgy, the high tech of the ancient world.  We can only imagine the horrific wound those weapons produced.  Recently, I saw a show on swordsmiths on one of the weapons porn channels, and it was a real eye-opener.  They covered weapons making as well as their use, and based the use on medieval texts from master swordsmen.  It was surprising to see just how fast and dangerous a swordsman could be.  This was not Basil Rathbone and Errol Flynn thrusting and parrying in Robin Hood.  It was more like a street fight full of dirty tricks.

When my daughter first started dating, I talked about getting a pike with a realistic human head to put in the front yard.  I still think that's a good idea.

M'kay.  I think he looks better with a fish head, but as you wish.
