Townsend's vaunted Politifact, and any person who pays even the remotest attention to goings on, calls BS on that.

http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/2011/feb/07/barack-obama/president-barack-obama-says-he-didnt-raise-taxes/

I'd agree; he raised the sin tax on cigarettes and the like.  Those are taxes that don't affect me like they used to, and have some merit to them.  The healthcare tax doesn't kick in for a couple of years.

Now, if you parse it down to straight income tax, no he hasn't raised them.  But a blanket statement like that was a little stupid.

So if you're scoring at home...tax on tobacco products - raised.  Income tax?  No.

What's the tax on interrupting a President you're interviewing?  Bad form?

Red Arrow

Federal Income Tax withholding rates were lowered.  Actual taxes, maybe not.  At least one of the guys at work got caught up in not having enough withholding and owes a lot rather than getting a small refund or owing just a little.  He didn't change his withholding, it was changed for him.

That place disses the stimulus tax relief as "small".  $290 billion.

At the same time they disparage 'raised taxes' as HUGE - $200 billion.  Hmmm...yep, about what one would expect.

And guido is miffed by the whole thing because he is part of the richest group who got their big breaks in 2001/2003 and didn't get even MORE when everyone else got their little piddling $290 billion break in '09.

Wah, wah, wah....

Here's one for ya - how about we make the federal taxes on cigarettes and tobacco products come up to the level of the costs they put on the rest of us for subsidizing their disgusting habit??  Probably make cigarettes about $20 a pack, though.

But then here is a guy that says the net savings to society for every pack smoked is 32 cents.  And that smokers over 20 have health care costs of $326,000 versus thin healthy people who have health care costs of $417,000.  Because the live longer...  Seems kind of counterintuitive, but I guess we should all go back to smoking.  Would save us a ton of money, apparently.

I'm miffed because Obama looked the American people in the eye and straight up lied to them. It's nice to know how quick the lefties in here are quick to spin or dismiss it.

Big enough lie?

All this spinning is making me dizzy.  Well, more so than normally.

It is dizzying.

Suspended from practice in Arkansas, disbarred by the U.S, Supreme Court, and impeached. If you are going to lie, hit it outta the park.

Yeah, because lying about a BJ and lying about the premise for taking us into a war that has killed over 4000 of our men and women are so much the same...wow.  Talk about derangement syndromes.

heironymouspasparagus

So, guido, do you REALLY, ACTUALLY equate lies with all being of "equal value"??

You really think Clinton lying is worse, or even ANYWHERE near as bad as the Iraq war lies?
Or Reagan's Nicaraquan lies and felony actions?
Or Nixon about anything and everything?
Or Johnson/McNamara about Viet Nam?
Or Bush about torture?

If you actually say yes and mean it to any of those, then I have seriously misjudged you.

(Yeah, I know, you couldn't care less, but that would pretty much prove true every lawyer anecdote ever created.)

First, this thread was about Obama looking Americans in the face and absolutely telling what he darned well knew was false. Well of course that did not settle well with spooners so we have to change the subject to W. Now, about this Bush Lied=People Died. Look at these liars on the Iraq WMD program during the run up to the war:

Yes I know, evil W intentionally manipulated the intelligence data because Saddam wanted to kill his daddy. Exit: How long before this thread devolves into an attack on Palin.

And let us not forget the 10+ year lie that every RWRE's favorite, Newt Gingrich, was giving the American people as well as his wife.  You remember the one... the  paid companion he was diddling on the side for over a decade.  And finally dumped his wife to marry.    (And lest one think I am accusing her of being a woman of ill repute, I am not.  She was an employee - paid.  Congressional aide(s?)  And a companion to Newt.)  And this was the SECOND time he had done exactly the same thing.

At the same time he was piously calling for impeachment for a BJ in the Oval Office.  Yeah, there's a pillar of moral society.

And the revisionist history crew just can't stand it when people won't indulge in their blind vision version of the world.  Where was all this indignation about lying about a little bit of tax code sleight of hand when Reagan cut taxes, then raised them 3 times??  And when the Murdochian cabal keeps on lying about how the tax cut was the end of the discussion?

Well, it's very easy to understand.  When someone shows the ENTIRE story, it pretty well destroys the argument they are trying to make.  Reality's a grumble, ain't it?
