Saw this interesting blurb on the PDF under Central Park TIF: acquisition, relocation, demolition of Oaklawn

Are there plans to redevelop Oaklawn Cemetery at 11th & Peoria?

You son-of-a-Beach! You moved the cemetry, but you left the bodies! Didn't you?  You only moved the headstones!

A few years ago the buidling on the cemetery property was rennovated (broken windows replaced).

That's why I was surprised to see that on the TIF info sheet.  I'm sure the city would want to see it redeveloped though, dead bodies (some of which have been there since the 1800's) don't add any property or sales tax revenue.   ;)

Dead people have been known to vote.  If they can vote, they can pay taxes.

It's thought that unleashing the fury of CAPS LOCK is rude and generally unnecessary.

I rode my bike by there earlier and they are definitely working on the building at the SE corner of 6th & Peoria.  Isn't that Blake Ewing's project?  This building:

The streetscape is sorely needed however.  The view looking west from that stretch of 6th is really great.  Here is a rendering with the canal:

Plan (including new retention ponds)

Yes, the building on the corner is a Blake Ewing project. It is to become The Phoenix Cafe, however the focus right now it's on Back Alley, so work on that project isn't going to get into full swing quiet yet. There is some renovations going on down the street just a bit on the North side of the road though, not sure what is going on there.

So they cut this, and nobody knows if it will ever happen....?

Well, gotta keep the foreign aid going somehow.

I don't think the Pearl flood control project involves federal funding...

I didn't realize how big this whole thing was. It's pretty incredible. Watch the video, they are really making everything look a lot better. By next weekend, there will be trees lining the street and a makeshift canal. Pretty exciting!
