Apparently, by the time Kansas had completed building its portion of I-35, Oklahoma had not even allocated money for the construction to the highway literally ended in a field at the border.

Talk about the road to nowhere.
That field looks like a early crop circle type photo.

That is a good picture of history.

I own some border land south of Edna, Kansas.  Our land is on the Oklahoma side, across the road is Kansas.
Trust but verify

That's how 169 was south of 51st for a long time.  Used to go to the pile of dirt to watch fireworks at the river from there.  Great position - was sorry to see the road finished - lost the viewing place.

I don't share my thoughts because I think it will change the minds of people who think differently.  I share my thoughts to show the people who already think like me that they are not alone.

It would be interesting to dig back into the archives and find out the pattern that was followed to do the construction on I-35 once the funding was allocated.

Why do I think the starting point just happened to be in the Capitol city of our beloved homeland, completed there, and then expanded to the north and south?   ;D

So Oklahoma's highways have always been inferior to the surrounding states? Do we have to be behind everyone in everything? (except female incarceration)

I heard somewhere that we are also the divorce capital of the U.S.

I believe 169 still ended at 21st Street when our family moved here in 1971.  By 1987, it had been extended to 51st but not 71st.  I was working at the Cherokee Industrial Park at the time.  I took me about 1/2 hr to get to 169 & 51st from 111th & Memorial.  It was absolutely horrible around Christmas with Woodland Hills traffic.

I just remember 51st, then 71st was right after I got married in 1990.  Moved to Texas in 1991 and we came back to visit that Thanksgiving (1991) and they had already built the Creek.  I was like 'wow'...I remember when the only thing east of Mingo on 71st street until you got to BA was the Maytag store right there at 169.  Nothing else.

They took it to 51st for a long time, then while they were building Woodland Hills mall, they hurried up to get the extension done for mall traffic.  That was early 80s.

Not that much of a hurry considering WHM opened late '76 to mid '77
