KOTV grabbed the story about NYC taking our shuttle and showering us with mexican sauce.

QuoteTULSA, Oklahoma -- It may be bad news for Tulsa. A New York newspaper is reporting the NASA Space Shuttle Enterprise was awarded to the Intrepid Sea-Air-Space Museum in New York City.

Tulsa's Air and Space Museum leaders had been requesting the prototype shuttle from the three NASA will be donating.

The Enterprise came to Tulsa International August of 1979.

The official announcement won't come until Noon Tuesday. Tulsa is one of 21 contenders hoping to land a shuttle.

random posts on twitter are now saying that dayton, seattle, and houston are not getting a shuttle.  i figured houston was a lock.

I'm not really sad, I never thought there was a real chance. It's worth trying but it was a very long shot.

Also read that Atlantis is going to Cape Canaveral.

Discovery to the Smithsonian/NASM
Enterprise to NYC
Atlantis to CC
Endeavor to ??

I would really have guessed Endeavor would go to Houston, maybe it's going to Chicago or Huntsville? I'm betting Huntsville.

i am really surprised that there are going to be three on the east coast.  i figured they would spread them out across the country.

Kind of a shame considering NYC already has plenty of attractions and Tulsa actually played a part in the construction of the shuttles.  I don't know that it would have been a destination attraction for Tulsa, but at the least it contributes to a critical mass of things to make people want to spend a few days in our city.

There is a whole list of criteria you were supposed to meet to get a shuttle. Tulsa was one of only 6 or 7 to meet all of them. NYC wasn't one of the others.

Evidently NYC has a trump card.  (No pun about the man with the funny hair intended.)

Man, another couple of these disappointments and we might as well dissolve the state.  We can be North Texas, South Kansas, West Arkansas, or Missouri's left bottom.

Wouldn't matter much to me.  At least we'd have a water front, a better state capital, prettier hills, or an arch.  Maybe a train for us.

BTW Swake, nice job on scooping all the local news organizations again.

Did politics play into the decisions?

Must have.  :(

Oh well, less government. :)

NASA Administrator Charles Bolden stated "This was a very difficult decision, but one that was made with the American public in mind."

How does putting 3 on the east side of the country and 1 on the west have the American public in mind? Makes absolutely no sense at all.

I didnt think we had a snowballs chance in hell of getting it, but deep down inside, I was hoping we would.  I think it would be a great draw.
