My Son already has his temporary DL.
Now he is ready to take that next step at driving his own car.
He took and passed Drivers Ed.
My question is this. I want to take him out driving around town in the car he most likely will be driving.
Where would a good safe place with less traffic be to have him practice driving this vehicle ?
Any ideas would be appreciated.

I know there are several that take their kids out to Garnett past 111th, or wherever it comes to an end at.

Garnett between 111th and 121st is Haikey Creek Park.

There is no place that will make you truly comfortable.  Start in the residential neighborhoods, just roaming around, crossing the main streets in the middle of the mile.  And if possible, right turn at the main street, go a block or two, changing lanes to make the left turn into the next mile block - rather than a straight shot across.  Good practice in quiet areas, with a few moments of sheer terror for you on a main street to keep you alert!

Northeast corner of 36th and Sheridan has a quiet little neighborhood that is twisty-turny for lot's of steering control practice.

Enjoy!!

(Didn't you let him drive before this?  Like sitting next to you steering, gas pedal, etc??)

I don't share my thoughts because I think it will change the minds of people who think differently.  I share my thoughts to show the people who already think like me that they are not alone.

A bit further South than.  Once I get past 101st they all tend to blend together in my mind.

There are also areas around the airport that have had all the houses stripped but the streets are still there.

There's a brand-spanking-new subdivision out in Owasso off 86th Street North that has maybe one house under construction so far if you're looking for the zero traffic experience.

The problem with downtown is that it's really easy to miss the lights if you're not used to them. Traffic's pretty light but not dead in the Pearl and Kendall-Whittier areas. Very easy going in that area and a good mix of street types.
