I was wondering if anyone knows what those "little white squares" are for that are painted on the pavement on the east edge of the path, (the bike path does not have them). They are about 2" X 3" in size and seem to be random spaced,  on the west edge of the trail they have a "blue leaf" design, I thought it may be marking a quarter mile mark or something but it doesn't seem to.

I believe the white squares are painted every 100 meters. Not sure about the little birds and whales and such.

Those marks seem to be random on the trail,  and they already have mile and half mile markers painted on the trail pavement,  the white square marks are painted on the side of the pavement. I don't see them on the bike path  side. Anyhow with all this cold weather I'm not able to do much jogging, Sunday was a washout, Saturday I was at Church most of the day- (I joined a new church), and latter had alot of errands to take care of so that took care of a Saturday jog. My guess is the marks are for maintence or they mark where the light pole wires are buried or something like that. The blue leaf thing may be for marking  1/4 mile sections, just wondering if anyone knew what they are for...  BTW the const. for the new trail section south of I-44 is due to be done in June, unless all this cold & and rainy weather delays it. I'm not much of a fan of painted mile markers I like the old wooden post markers that  you can see it in the distance and check your time and see how your doing. The painted markers can't be seen from a distance and are easy to miss.  ::)

Kraut...the white squares definitely are not random. If I recall...they're only on the portion of the trail running from SW Blvd to 41st St. Every 100m...I've used them for speed work.

As for the painted mile markers...hey whatever blows your skirt up. They look fine and have held up great.

I told my man friend that those blue marks look like the hobo code for "dishonest man":

OK thanks (I think), I'll be doing some running this weekend and I'll try and closer attention to the marks.

Take a picture of them so we know exactly what you're looking at.  Take a picture of them and then a picture of the area in which you're running.

Maybe a fresh picture of Blue Rose.  I've not been there since the Spring really hit.

Omaha, NE has some outstanding trails, the city has a whole network of jogging/bike trails free of any street crosings. The   trail markers they use are  a round  disc in the pavement each 1/10th of a mile with the trail name on it and the mile mark such as "Mile 4.8 Papilo Trail" They are real good for speed training but the real reason for those markers is for emergencys so the EMS can find the emergency location faster. www.omahatrails.com

I like Tulsa's double trail at RiverSide one for runners and one for bikes great idea, dog poop is a problem though, as is finding a place to park on weekends. Some Tulsa trails have street crosings that can be a real pain.. Omaha has a whole network system of paved trails almost like a interstate highway system for bikes and runners without any street crossings- I'd like to see Tulsa's trail system expanded like that. Omaha's KeyStone Trail has been just about taken over by cyclists who are  going way too fast, the bikers don't like runners, walkers or roller bladers in their way. Omaha builds trails fast, in Tulsa they take forever to to rebuild a few miles. They have plans to connect Omaha's trail system to the trail system in Lincoln, Nebraska, but legal issues with land owners are slowing the progress down. Omaha is a runner's City. Tulsa should get on the ball, OKC is also building a network of trails, Tulsa has to get in gear or risk getting left behind other cities- let's develope the west bank of the river for a full trail. www.omahatrails.com

OKC doesn't have a "network" of trails.  That would imply they are interconnected which they aren't.  The OKC trail system is a mishmash of trails which requires getting on a busy road to go from one to another.  Tulsa's trail system is remarkable.  Yes, I wish there were no crossings necessary, especially out toward NSU, but it's what we've got and it's better than nothing.

Take some pictures of the parts of the Tulsa trail you don't like and post them so we know exactly where you mean.

Can you check out a digital camera at the library, or do you think they've got a scanner he can use to scan the images from his Kodak Instamatic 110 pocket camera?
