Mmmhmm. The facts disagree, so you attack me personally? Also a good skill for a trial lawyer to have. ;)

What "fact" are you blathering about? Last I read Conan asked for stats and you gave none but your belief. And quit whining about personal attacks. I recall you calling me a deadbeat recently (but I won't let that fact get in the way Clavin).

And no answer to my hair splitting question.

It's funny that every time you express disbelief of a given number, I come up with a reference, yet you continue to disbelieve.

From Cato, of all people:
Quote
o More than half of illegal aliens enter legally and
overstay their visas and permits. "Less than half of illegal
immigrants cross the nation's borders clandestinely. The majority
enter legally and overstay their visas" (Fix and Passel 1994, 4).

It's like you don't know how to use the Google.

And yeah, I called you a deadbeat after about 50 separate occasions where you called my integrity, intelligence, or other attribute into question rather than addressing my argument.

The Cato citation is 1994, anything more recent?  At any rate, sounds closer to 50/50, not the vast majority over-stayed a visa.

Not to nit-pick or anything ;)

A more recent Pew study put it at 50/50. There are more, but I'm on vacation in Colorado, so I'm not terribly interested in spending my day looking up studies. Either way, at least half of "illegals" haven't committed a crime. A far cry from jamesrage's statement that they're all criminals.

Strange.   I thought they were here illegally.   If that is the case then 100% are criminals.

WTH are you doing on here then?

If you are within 100 miles of Pagosa Springs you MUST visit the Pagosa Brewing Co.  Absolutely outstanding microbrews.  Poor Richard's Ale and Pow Pow IPA are amazing brews.

He's part of the "connected 24/7/52 + the few extra days + leap day every fourth year" crowd.  He can't help it.

I haven't been to the Pagosa Brewing Co but would certainly make the opportunity if reasonably possible.

Aside from that, if you were to travel through northern New Mexico to get there, particularly Taos, there's plenty of great Southwestern food to eat and more microbrews to drink along the way.  Gazpacho's in Durango is another great eatery with Steamworks Brewpub being in the neighborhood.  I'd heard a rumor Steamworks had shut down but according to the web site they are still open.

Thanks for the suggestions. On the way here, I passed through Pagosa Springs, but it was late and I was trying to make Durango before dark.

I'm not connected 24 hours a day..more like 16. I was at four corners earlier..checking TNF. It's amazing where you can get cell service these days.

Sadly, the weather has turned to smile and the snow line is down to 7500 feet (would be nice in ski season..not so much in May..I wanted to drive up to Silverton tomorrow and perhaps on to Ouray), so it seems that Steamworks is my best shot for brew. I may be able to hit Pagosa on the way back home, though I think she who must be obeyed wants to do the drive back over two days. Apparently she didn't like that we made it in less than 13 hours.

BTW, the Ore House has fantastic steak and the rum cake is to die for.

TeeDub, my entire point was that it's not a crime to be here without authorization. It's the entry that may have been illegal, but is not at leas half(ish) the time. Do try to keep up.

You actually turn your phone off for about 8 hrs/day?  Cool.  Rebel.

If you get stuck in Durango around lunch time, try Gazpachos and get something with Christmas chile sauce, their red and green are excellent.  Honeyville, north of Durango on the way to Silverton is a great place to find odd jams and salsas.  That's one of the mandatory stops with FMC every year to get gifts for the family and friends back home.

Funny story: we thought we had plenty of time to get out to four corners, got there with plenty of daylight left at 5:45pm.  Only problem was it closed at 5pm.  Good idea to check ahead when driving 80 miles out of your way to see landmarks. ;)

WASHINGTON (Dow Jones)--The U.S. Supreme Court on Thursday upheld an Arizona law that imposes sanctions against businesses that hire illegal immigrants.

The court, on a 5-3 vote, said federal immigration law does not bar Arizona from suspending or revoking the licenses of businesses that employ unauthorized aliens.

"Because we conclude that the state's licensing provisions fall squarely within the federal statute's savings clause and that the Arizona regulation does not otherwise conflict with federal law, we hold that the Arizona law is not preempted," Chief Justice John Roberts wrote in a 27-page opinion.

Then-Gov. Janet Napolitano signed the Arizona law ...

Here's some analysis which sheds some light on the potential prospects of Oklahoma's reforms surviving a constitutional challenge.
