Sadly, I have left Dr. Shunatona. I just started going to a DO and she is actually trying to figure out what is going on with me. I got to the point where I felt like Bat was just phoning it in. I really really like him personally. He's a great guy. Maybe he's a better doc for men.

I was having a different yet similar conversation with a friend last night.  We were discussing scotch, cigars, coffee & wine.  I may think a certain scotch is terrible, but someone else may love it.  To them its a great sip, so who cares what the label says or magazine rating or price point it is.

I think the same can be said for doctors.  It is all about personal opinion and preference.  I referred a friend to Dr Shunatona who hated him and then I have another friend that I referred to him that loves him.  My wife and I have both found Dr Shunatona very thorough.  In fact, she was in his office this week and commented that evening how much she thinks of him and his office.

All that aside, Grizzle good luck with your search!  I would recommend having a sit down meeting with them before you need to see them for an ailment to ensure you like them.

Last GP (General Practitioner, your "normal" doctor) I tried, when developing a sinus infection:
"There's nothing really wrong with you, but it looks like you won't be satisfied unless I give you some medication"
(I go to a doctor 1-2 a year, I am not "drug seeking" nor do I want a doctor who caters to people who are.)

GP before that I tried, after 3 hours in waiting room and patient room:
"I can't really find what's wrong with you, but I'm going to send you home with steroids and an antihistamine and see if anything changes"
(A trip to the Ergent Care revealed I had bronchitis, sinusitis and an ear infection which antihistamines make worse)

I know it's called a "practice" but I wish they would "practice" on someone else and actually diagnose me. I am currently fighting off what may be early phases of the flu but really don't know without a doctor who knows his/her butt from the 9th green.

Any suggestions? Prefer DO's and prefer near downtown or south tulsa.

You'd be well served to stop referring to them as "GP"s... Unless you really just want someone who isn't board certified... Take personal recommendations and match them up against info on www.okmedicalboard.org (for MDs) and http://www.docboard.org/ok/ok.htm (for DOs) and don't see anyone who is not board certified.

Many people with a simple URI are convinced they have sinusitis/bronchitis and any "urgent care" will give you antibiotics without regard- just to get you the hell out of there...

Sad fact is, in the absence of specific alarm signs (i.e. dyspnea, hemoptysis, pleuritic chest pain, prolonged course >2wk) which may signify secondary bacterial or pneumonia, there is no role for antibiotics in the management of acute bronchitis.

And acute sinusitis? Studies show, Doctors are consistently overprescribing antibiotics for sinus infections. In a recent large meta-analysis, it was noted that you'd have to treat 15 patients with rhinosinusitis-like symptoms before one additional patient would benefit from antibiotic treatment (most people do better with a neti pot and intranasal steroids).

Unfortunately, people often don't like what they are told. But facts are facts.
"It costs a fortune to look this trashy..."
"Don't believe in riches but you should see where I live..."

The neti pot (I actually use the squeeze bottle rather than gravity feed) has almost eliminated my need for OTC allergy pills.
$7.00 for 50 packets of salt is a bit expensive but it doesn't make me drowsy or run up my blood pressure.
