I'm a third-generation Tulsan, and a six-year resident of District 4.

I will be voting for Maria Barnes again.

None of the other District  4 candidates impress me.

But I have some standards -- I'm not a knee-jerk right-wing FauxNews Republican.

Welcome to the forum.

I sorta know all the candidates in district four. I like the diversity in this election.

Candidates from both parties and sexes, insiders and newcomers, and just enough crazy to make it interesting.

I wish I still lived in district four. This will be a fun race to watch.

Longtime lurker, first time poster-

Just curious about everyone's thoughts on which primaries will be the ones to watch...

I think that Sam Roop's entry into District 5 adds an interesting twist to that picture.  Before his entry, it sure seems that the anti-incumbent trend might sink Chris Trail.  With someone like Roop in the picture with Karen Gilbert, anti-incumbant voters have two choices, one of whom should still have substantial name ID in the district.  Will be interesting to see if Roops' name ID, Trail's status as the incumbent or Gilbert's consultant will rule the day.

Also think that the District 4 primaries on both sides will be interesting.  I think that Maria Barnes has some work to do with Ken Brune.  I would bet he represents a real threat to her success.  He will bring money and experience to the table.  The Republican primary is also pretty interesting.  Rocky took a ton of votes from Eric Gomez last time, garnering almost 900 votes.  Liz Hunt is new to the council races, but is not a total unknown in the area or in the business community.  Blake has great name ID and a real following (just compare Facebook "likes" between the D4 candidates) but it remains to be seen whether or not he can translate that following into votes.

I'm curious to hear your thoughts on these and other races... I think for fans of politics, this cycle could be a lot of fun.  We're in for an interesting next 60 days!

Brookside Guy, here are my fearless predictions for the general election winners:

District 5: Trail (R)

District 6: Mautino (R)

District 7: Roemerman (R)

District 8: Lakin (R)

District 9: Batman (D)

AND A BONUS PREDICTION F0R MAYOR IN 2013: Tom Adelson (D)

You think Batman will beat Bynum?  I know District 9 has changed, but I don't think enough to beat the juggernaut that Bynum has become in that district.

What do you know about Foster that leads you to think he will win?  He's a 24 year old waiter for Zio's.  No offense, but what qualifications or experience does he bring to the table?  If I lived in District 2, I'd be scratching my head trying to figure out who to vote for.

Pizza, pasta and sandwiches. Hope he's not expecting a tip.

Wow!  That makes him far more qualified than many of the existing counselors!

Hell...He could be The POTUS.....

If Foster were a Democrat, his pizza experience wouldn't go very far.

But he is a Republican. The other pizza guy who  is a political newcomer, Herman Cain, is running for President. Obviously, Republicans have relaxed standards for their candidates.

And Foster, as a waiter, has actually had experience "serving" people.

I stand by my prediction that Foster is "crusty" enough to "rise" and win a big "slice" of the vote, "topping" all the other candidates, even if the other candidates have more "dough.".

AND A BONUS PREDICTION F0R MAYOR IN 2013: Tom Adelson (D)

Adelson would be foolish to run again as mayor.  He's been a great legislator, but that doesn't always translate   to being a great leader, our current President being another example.  Adelson really took poor advice or not enough good advice to keep his yapper shut when Joe Kelley started in on him.  Not only did he come off as a defensive twit, he also came off as being slightly left of Barack Obama which will never play well in this market.

It's a shame too.  I had high hopes for him as mayor but it became apparent he's missing some key leadership qualities like an even temper.  You simply cannot run as an "Obama liberal" for mayor of Tulsa and expect to win in a market which is so dominated by conservative thought and media.

FWIW, I'm a registered GOP and started out supporting Adelson's campaign.  I wound up voting for Perkins when it became apparent Adelson was unelectable and I couldn't bear to be complicit with a Bartlet (sic) administration which has played out just as many predicted it would.

TA won't run.

Bynum will be Tulsa's next Mayor.

EDIT: or Lakin....but Phil's a little green.
