I predict that three incumbents won't run, three will be re-elected, and three will lose their re-election.

I predict that after the Primary we will be guaranteed at least five new councilors.

Divorce dirty tricks in council candidate's past

City Council candidate Nancy Rothman attempted to set up her ex-husband with child pornography and falsely accused him of sexually abusing one of their children in a custody battle related to their 1998 divorce, an appeals court ruled.

Rothman, a Republican seeking the open District 2 seat, told the Tulsa World on Friday that court documents from the ruling do "paint a picture, and people can think what they want, but there are always several sides to the story and a lot of dynamics in a divorce."

Rothman said many people go through devastating experiences, and "it is really the choices we make when we come out that matters."

Rothman would not deny her actions outlined in a 2003 state Court of Civil Appeals opinion affirming a Tulsa County district judge's decision to give custody of the former couple's children to her husband, John Rothman.

"For me, this divorce was a very difficult time for both of us, and what it did was really fuel the passion that I have now to help people and to help this city move on beyond disputes and beyond personal agendas and beyond hidden agendas to bring things to light so we can help people," she said.

Rothman, an attorney and director of the legal clinic at Neighbor for Neighbor, said she will not drop out of the race "no matter what is thrown against me or what is said.

"I am here to continue my quest for peace, open government and ... to stop all the fighting and back-biting."

Rothman was a plaintiff in a now-dismissed lawsuit against the City Council for an alleged Open Meeting Act violation.

A Tulsa World review of records also indicates that Rothman has other legal and financial issues that she said stem from her "complicated" divorce.

The appeals court opinion states that ample evidence was presented that Rothman was "actively engaged in a process of alienating the children from their father." The evidence included unfounded accusations that her husband sexually abused their younger child, the court said.

"The last straw was when wife and her friend 'hired' a man to spy on husband and to find a female who would attach herself romantically to husband, receive a key to his condo, and plant child pornography there," an appeals court judge wrote.

After realizing "the criminal intent of the plan," the man tape-recorded his next conversation with Rothman and turned it over to her husband, who passed it on to the Tulsa Police Department, according to the opinion.

She also continuously denied her husband visitation despite court warnings and attempted to harm her husband's reputation with false accusations, court documents note. She was required to pay $70,099 of her ex-husband's court costs

Rothman's conduct was found to be "reprehensible in a parent" and "endangered the mental welfare of the children," the court said.

In 2008, Rothman pleaded guilty to a contempt citation for failure to pay, over a seven-year period, court-ordered child support and received a six-month jail sentence, a $500 fine and the loss of all her state-issued licenses. The sentence was suspended as long as she complied with the court-ordered payment schedule for back child support.

Rothman said she never lost her licenses.

She also told the World that the handful of financial issues that she has had - including her 2006 bankruptcy, the 2005 foreclosure on her home and a 2001 tax lien that was later released - were related to her divorce.

She said she has been able to move forward and bring positivity back into her life through the help of a local "spiritual guide."

She said it is not "a new-age thing," noting that many of their discussions are linked to the Bible.

"We talk about astrology, but in a biblical sense like how when Christ was born all of the planets were aligned with each other," she said.

LoL, stop the backbiting.  (tries to frame husband for child porn).  That sounds like somebody who will stop the back biting.

Her intense love of her country made her act like a deadbeat psycho.  I can't believe she hasn't been disbarred.
