Little Red Engine by Turkey Mountain

I was riding my bike yesterday afternoon from midtown up to Turkey Mtn. Great bike ride, wish I could run that far and back! Anyway, I noticed the railroad tracks that run next to the path below the mtn were in pretty good shape. Then I heard the rumble of a train and the sounding of his horn as he approached the crossing of the path and the tracks.

Just caught a glimpse, but it appeared to be a cute little bright red and silver (Frisco?) locomotive travelling by its lonesome. What ever happened to the concept of running a passenger train along this route that we discussed a while back? I haven't seen a train over there in a long time. Is this some kind of trial run?

I am at Turkey Mtn a lot and have never seen a train come down those tracks.

I see trains every now and then: little yard engine and a couple of boxcars. The track's in usable shape, but I'm sure it's in poor enough condition that they can't exceed 10 or 20mph.

That's what intrigued me. I think it was Pfox who told us that there was a plan for a passenger excursion train along that route but my memory fades. That was back when the big development south of the bridge in Jenks was still happening. Whoever it was said the tracks were being re-habbed, which is what caught my attention yesterday. They are in decent shape. The locomotive itself was moving along pretty quickly, but certainly less than 20mph. That would be fine for a dinner excursion trip from Jenks to ...wherever that track goes and back.

Maybe your bike was moving faster than the train! Most of them were. I was more or less sightseeing and enjoying some gut checking uphills and some fast downhills.

Probably a TSU spotter engine heading to or from the Holly refinery

Check out the Tulsa Sapulpa Union RR.  They go to the Kimberly Clark plant just south of Jenks and the power plant.

I remember the discussion, I think it was about bike paths or something similar.

It takes paper pulp to the Kimberly Clark plant twice a day, or so they claim. I've lived in Jenks for 10 years and have seen it less than 10 times.

I've seen it a few times.  I always imagined it was people.

That's the one. The stuff of urban legends.

Hook up some of those old Pullman cars they have in Jenks and make Christmas runs.

Sadly those cars are long gone.

The Pullman cars have been gone for a while now.  They were too far gone and there was no money to restore them.  At least that's the story I heard.
