Yes, football and soccer can be violent, but the intent spirit of the game is not to hurt your opponent as it is in boxing.

Modified that a little as to some in both sports, that can totally be what they are after.  Not all, and definitely not a huge amount.  But some.

I'm sure there were no conregation at the event cheering the pugilist on........ ::)

Couldn't you just hear Pastor Mike yelling into the mic: "Come on! Bash his bucking head in! Clobber his donkey!"

I get that modern churches use creative ways to attract people who might not be interested in the stodgier ways of more traditional churches, but somewhere between the "Bad Company" concert, the motorcycle rallies and boxing matches, Guts Church may have lost site of its real purpose.  If it sponsored an unsanctioned (and likely illegal) boxing match at which a participant died, Guts is likely to face a financial liability that will be detrimental to its continued existence.

I would consider it more of a cult not a church.....

HiYa D?!?!?!

I went to see Carlton when he was preaching on Sunday afternoons at Trinity Episcopal.  His gospel of inclusion was interesting, but he's still materialistic as ever and when he started campaigning for Obama from the pulpit, I'd seen enough.  Not the Obama issue so much but electioneering in a church.

These days, it's church behind bars for me:

Please don't bad mouth the church. The congregation and faith had nothing to do with it.

The congregation set up the event, hosted it and promoted it. More than once.

Bad idea? Probably
Criminal? The DA will find out

Pastor Carlton is now a associate Pastor at a Church in Chicago. He really took a hit with his new doctrine and the Church split. I'm sorry to say that I had already backslid before all that and had left the Church in 99. I still check in to see how all the people who had influenced me along my way are doing today.

Backslid, or realized you didn't have to have religion to have spirituality?

Who in the world would ever thought to see this day!!!
We agree on something...anything!!...

It is a cult.

As is Church on the Move.

We got a lot of that going on in this part of the country.  (Cults...maybe boxing, too.)
