I heard that a bar was going in on the ground floor of the Philtower, I can't say how accurate this is, but the person that gave me the info works next door in the Atlas Life building.

It's going to be called Edward B. Delk's, I have heard.  Named after the architect who designed the building, and others for Waite Phillips, including Philbrook and Villa Philmonte.

Nice! Thanks for the affirmation.

Is it going into one of the street level spaces on Boston Ave?  Would love to see one more area right on Boston Ave that has outdoor seating. Nice being on that street when people are out at Elote's and Mods and keep thinking if just one more place has seating like that nearby you will begin to create that lively "district"/streetscape feeling.  If there is any area in this city that would be absolutely knock out to have like that it would be around that intersection at 5th and Boston. Though even if they don't have outdoor seating, if you can see inside the windows and have another hang out in that area, that too will be a big plus.

Viva La Deco District! lol  8)

They can't put bar seating on the sidewalk without permanently fencing off that area.

Which brings us back to the short-sightedness of the Boston Avenue refurb from a few years ago.

Pretty much every time I go by that part of Boston during business hours there are cars stopped in the right lane: cars being valet parked by the hotel, delivery trucks, etc.

It really is too bad the decision makers in this town are seemingly going off the Dallas/OKC craptastic model of pedestrian friendly areas rather than actual good examples of this.

Indeed.  We were told the reason they didn't do wide sidewalks down Boston Ave was because the local businesses didn't want it. I asked around, and NONE of the businesses and building owners I have talked to so far have ever said they would not have wanted the wider sidewalks instead of what we got.  Seems to me someone made the descision, then lied to us when we questioned that descision.

This sounds like a great addition to the neighborhood.

On a related note, I was at my office on Saturday and it is amazing how many people I now see walking around Boston between 6th and 3rd on weekends -  many with cameras taking pictures of our buildings.  Just a few years ago, the only people you saw down here on weekends were people going to their office and the occasional skateboarder.  We're not "there" yet, but real progress is being made.

Its really up to us. If you want weekend traffic in downtown then go downtown. Get a hair cut, get coffee and a crepe from Rusty at Mod's, get a margarita from Elote.

Open a place that can consolidate those and you've got a concept.  The hair in my crepe might be a downer though.

I need each of these things, but also occasionally need a pedicure and some bait for fishing. When are those vendors coming?
