Cherry Street Hi-Jinks

We drove down Cherry Street westward from Reasor's Friday night to see how the new lane alignments are working. I do like it, mostly because it slows traffic down through the area and gives you a chance to stop when a pedestrian cuts across in front of you. Of course, they are harder to see when they dart out from between angled cars. But still, a better design. However, the left turn lane at Peoria leaves a very slim area on the right in between parallel parked cars in front of the restaurant. Still a good attempt.

I heard a rumbling noise coming towards us in the dark around the narrow area in front of the new mexican restaurant old Camilles (forgot the restaurant name), the one with the valet parking. Its kind of dark around there and busy.

To my surprise the rumbling was coming from a self propelled Howitzer artillery piece chugging eastward with its cannon bouncing up and down! "WHAT WAS THAT?!", my wife asked. We both were so tired I just shrugged and said, "I think it was a tank". "Oh, yeah, a tank." she nodded.

Cool. Bohemian. College town like. More military vehicles on Cherry Street....just a thought.

I hope they had a smooth tread on it.  A heavy vehicle like that must tear up roads.  It's good to hear that Tulsa parking enforcement has gone from merely militant to militarized.

Agreed that the new configuration has slowed traffic down, I tried to ride my bike east and west on Cherry Street on Sunday and it was a very scary experience. I'll be using 14th Street from now on.

I'm hoping the popularity of this streetscape and Cherry Street in general will prompt business owners and the city to fixing the sidewalks in certain areas and planting street trees in planters.  There is very little shade along Cheryl St and it could really create a better pedestrian environment.

I really like what they've been doing with the streetscape around 6th to 11th & Peoria...completely rebuilding sidewalks, installing pavers and bollards, and planting trees.  It would be great to see something similar along 15th and eventually along Peoria between 15th and 11th.
