So I have been thinking about this and I think Aldi would be a good fit downtown. It has a small footprint, it would not compete with the other downtown grocers which focus on prepared foods and it would service downtown and all the outlying neighborliness.  It would also be far enough away from there other locations as to not cannibalism there own sales.

Since Aldi owns Trader Joe's I would rather see a Trader Joe's.   They are opening up stores all over Dallas.  But that probably wouldn't happen.

Aldi's is mainly private label at the same price as any other store for private label junk. Oh yeah, and carts you have to rent and bags you have to buy (which you then load yourself). Then they also sell random stuff like leather jackets, board games and lawn sprinklers.

Pass.

Actually not necessarily a bad thing for a mass retail island like downtown.

Not every development needs or has to be high end. I am sure the other downtown grocers will be name brand and higher end. This thread was not about adding Whole Foods or Reasors downtown it was about adding a small footprint grocer. While you might not use it I am fairly certain others would.

A good small footprint grocer? Braum's

They have all of the essentials, are local and also provide a restaurant side as well.

If you aren't too lazy to take your cart back to the storage area, you get your quarter ($.25) back.  It's more like deposit than rent.  Take your re-usable bag, it's good for the environment.  Their fresh  produce is often better than Pyramid or WalMart.

I really like Aldi's.

They have excellent dried fruit, nuts and frozen entrees. They are odd brands, but I think high quality.

They have the best milk. Are there any Ice Cream options downtown?

Their business model seems to fit more of the suburban lifestyle and small towns.  I'm working on a project for Braum's at the moment, I'll ask Drew Braum about it next time I have a meeting with him.

Ask him, too, when they're going to update the 33rd and W 51st st Braum's.
