Tyra Banks got her MBA from Harvard on Friday.

She drops out of college at 17 to have a successful career as a model. Does the covers of both GQ and the swimsuit cover of Sports Illustrated. Does a fine career in movies starring in things like Coyote Ugly and Life-size. Gets into TV with her own talk show for six years while creating a major TV hit called America's Next Top Model. Starts her own entertainment business.

All the while going back to college and now getting one of the most prestigious and difficult degrees in the country.

Beauty and brains and more importantly, a desire to always better herself.
Power is nothing till you use it.

And she did all that while being Black ?
Great example of how hard work is color blind.
Changing opinions one mistake at a time.

Meh, according to Snobtorum, she's a snob....

;)

OSU

Too be fair she didn't exactly get an MBA from Harvard. She did a three week executive education course for entrepreneurs involved in companies with annual sales of at least $5 million.

Honorary MBA, eh?  Short cut for those with life experience.

Now try doing that when you have a kid to take care of and no family available to babysit while you're in class. Oh, and don't forget you're working full time to keep a roof over your heads.

...and you have no shoes, there's 12" of snow on the ground and it's uphill to school and your job...

Perhaps choose a less expensive option to the Harvard MBA program.

I got my MBA from the University of South Internet.

Great school!  Final exam was only 4 questions long, unless of course you have a Paypal account, then it's only 1 question.

Haven't seen the cost of tuition lately? Not that free is cheap enough if you can't go to class because you can't afford a babysitter.

People who want it bad enough don't find excuses not to do it.

Yes, wanting money to magically appear in your pocket works great. Why not just wish for a million bucks? It'll be a lot easier than wishing for the money to pay for an extra 20 hours a week of day care and then going to college and only then beginning to earn the million. Oh, wait, they're both about as likely. It's not a matter of unwilling, it's a matter of unable.

Luckily for them, a lot of single parents have family around that are able/willing to help out. A lot don't. Refusing to recognize that many unskilled laborers would like nothing more than to better themselves but don't have the tools at their disposal to do so isn't terribly helpful.

There's plenty of programs and help available whether it's through church, family, friends, or even government, it's there for those who want it.  Pretending it doesn't exist, being too lazy to find that help, or to ignorant to realize it could exist, is simply one more excuse.

Why rule out mental and emotional issues? A bit callus....

If you say so. I'm not terribly concerned about the folks who have a support system to fall back on, though. Those are the folks that already have the opportunity to go to school if they so desire.
